“Best Bed and Breakfast”
Reviewed 2 August 2013

We have stayed at The Brickhouse Inn over the past 10 years-and wouldn't stay anywhere else. Brian and Tessa are so warm and welcoming. The staff goes out of their way to meet your every need. We have stayed in many rooms over the years - all beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Our personal favorites are Georgia and Kentucky. They have balconies overlooking the beautiful grounds-flowing stream into a pond, gardens, adirondack style chairs. Bring a bottle of wine and sit anywhere on the grounds-you would never know it is located in the middle of shops, restaurants and close to the battlefield. It feels as if you are in a wonderful relaxing garden oasis. Has all amenities you need, great breakfasts with touches of herbs and veggies from the garden off the back of the house. In nice weather enjoy an outdoor breakfast on the brick patios under an umbrella. This time we brought our family from CA with us. They found it to be as wonderful and relaxing as we always have. If your travels bring you to Gettysburg you must stay at this wonderful B&B. Jim and Linda Marshall

It was great to see you both again, and thanks for bringing your relations - we liked seeing the four of you enjoying yourselves.
Thanks for mentioning that it's a good idea to bring your own wine; there's only one (State) store in Gettysburg that sells wine, and it's over a mile from the center of the town.
We're glad you were able to relax on the patios and in the garden, and that the weather permitted you to breakfast outside (this last week has been a bit wet!).
Thanks so much for taking the trouble to write the lovely review. We look forward to seeing you again one day.
Take care of yourselves!
Best wishes, Tessa and Brian

We had a wonderful stay in Gettysburg at the Brickhouse Inn.
Gettysburg is a "must-visit" location if you are at all interested in American History & when you do go there then the best place to stay is the Brickhouse Inn.
We arrived in the middle of a heatwave & the moment we went through the door we found welcome "coolness" from the heat but a warm welcome from the staff. Our suite was just great, the public rooms & gardens were very comfortable & well cared for. Breakfasts were superb and we had them on tables in the gardens. The staff & other guests were very friendly & helpful. For British visitors it is also a bit special since Brian & Tessa are British albeit with colonial connections, understands our "foibles" & can best advise how to get the best out of the Gettysburg experience. We wholeheartedly recommend it & we will go back again like a shot.

Thank you so much for writing the review. We very much enjoyed meeting you and chatting to the three of you. It was rather hot when you were here, as it often is in July (it's much cooler now), but it was good that you were able to experience the breakfasts on the patios. We're glad you enjoyed Gettysburg - there's much of interest to guests from overseas who are interested in history, as you are.
We very much hope we'll see you again - either here or in Oxford.
Best wishes, Tessa and Brian

The buildings and grounds are very well maintained. The breakfasts were delicious, and always with a bit of a twist. We enjoyed pre-breakfast coffee on the porch, and the chance for pleasant conversation with other guests. We occupied the Illinois room overlooking the Baltimore Street. If we had been there (and our building was there) on Nov. 19, 1863, we could have watched Lincoln pass by on the way to give the Gettysburg Address. The location is great, as it is walking distance to downtown, to dome of the tourist traps, and the the Cemetery Hill part of the battlefield. After a poor experience a few years ago, we had stayed away from B&B's. Happily, the Brickhouse Inn has changed our view of the B&B.

Room Tip: We were not troubled, but there is a little street noise if you have a front room.

Thank you for your review. We're glad that you decided to try a B&B again, and that you gave us the opportunity to show you that they can be pleasant places to stay! You mentioned the historic nature of Baltimore Street; many guests are surprised when they see the large framed photo in our parlor and realize that 150 years ago President Lincoln and the parade went right past. We enjoy pointing out the Welty House in the photo, and the huge sycamore tree, still standing, that witnessed the parade.
Thanks again for coming to stay, and we hope you'll come again one day.
Our best wishes,
Tessa and Brian

My husband and I stayed for two nights at the Brickhouse Inn. It was simply wonderful! Our Alabama room was gorgeous, the bed was comfortable and the room was spotless! Tess and Brian along with the staff were wonderful to us. Our morning breakfasts in their gardens were beautiful and relaxing. The food was exceptional. We felt so relaxed that we didn't want to leave, although our schedule dictated that we had to go. We will definitely return again to this extraordinary inn. My husband and I have been talking about this wonderful trip and our stay at the inn for the past week after returning home.

Room Tip: We loved the Alabama room - it was wonderful, although although all of the rooms are beautiful at Br...

Thanks so much for the lovely review. We're very glad you liked the Alabama Room. Like the Kentucky Room above, it has the marks of history in the bullet scars on the outer wall. Also, those two rooms, being at the back of the house are quieter. This year we invested in modern air-conditioning/heating units for the four rooms in the 1830 house.
We very much enjoyed meeting you both. Hoping you'll return one day!
Best wishes,
Tessa and Brian

Once again our stay at the Brickhouse Inn was the best. The hospitality of Tessa and Brian and staff are second to none. They take the time at breakfast to chat with you about your stay, where you are from and answer any questions you have. They make you feel like family. The breakfast is not your bacon and eggs blah... Fresh and hot food with juices, coffee and tea. We have been to Gettysburg 6 years in a row and we never look anywhere but the Brickhouse.

My husband and I spent two nights at this lovely B&B. The location is great and the owners and staff are very welcoming. The room was perfect, with a clawfoot tub and firm mattress, (The Georgia Room) and the breakfast great. The gardens are beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed eating there each morning. The owners arranged a private tour of the battlegrounds that was stellar. The B&B is located within walking distance of good restaurants and ghost walks. We will surely return.

Thanks for the review - we greatly appreciate that you took the time to write it. It's especially important to us because you are discerning travelers. It was a good choice to take the Battlefield tour with a licensed guide - we wish more guests would do this. It's best to book the guide ahead, either through us or the National Park Service - 'stellar' as you say!
We're very pleased that you hope to return - it would be great to see you again.
Our best wishes, Tessa and Brian

This was our first trip to Gettysburg. After much research, we decided to stay in one of the town's B & B's, and we are so glad that we chose the Brickhouse Inn. The Brickhouse Inn is top notch. We could not have asked for more. It was like being "home". The accomodations were beautifully decorated and absolutely spotless. The gardens magnificent. The breakfasts on the garden patio were absolutely delicious, as well as the treats that were waiting for us after a long day of touring. Tessa and Brian made this trip so easy for us. We purchased one of their "packages" and they made all the arrangements for our tours and dinner reservations. We didn't have to lift a finger. This was by far one of the best vacations that we have had in a very long time. We will definitely be back.

Thank you for coming to spend a vacation with us. We feel very privileged that you chose us, and we're glad you enjoyed your stay. It's always good to know that a 'package' was successful - our aim is to make it easier for guests, by having the tickets ready on arrival, and the tours booked.
Thanks so much for writing the review. We very much enjoyed meeting you and hope to see you again one day.
Take care, and best wishes,
Tessa and Brian
