This stay was our eighth at The Brickhouse. We recommend it to all our friends who are coming to Gettysburg. The staff and management are like family and you feel like you are at home here.

Just want to thank all the other reviewers that helped us to find this true gem in historic Gettysburg PA. No need for me to add anything specific about how considerate and professional the inkeepers, Brian and Tessa, are to thier guests or how well maintained this property is as all the previous reviews do that already and I highly concur. The breakfasts are delicious and their suggestions for tours, places to eat and directions are right on the money. That being said, I will offer some practical suggestions based on my experiences over the Christmas weekend, 2009. My wife and I stayed in the six room historic Welty House right next door to the Brickhouse Inn proper. We chose the Georgia room and found it very cozy, with a second floor balcony overlooking the rear garden area and the front windows overlooking Baltimore Street. You have easy access to the "main" house which is literally steps away where you can get get cookies and tea whenever you like. This is where breakfast is served and they have a beautiful parlor with fireplace where you can read and relax, especially if your spouse is watching something on TV that does not interest you.
If, like many, you are drawn to Gettysburg for the history, you can not pick a better place as the cemetary where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg address is directly up the street and Culp's Hill is a manageable walk beginning feet away from the parking area behind the house on Wainright Ave. (there is a handy map inside the binder in your room). However, nothing will enhance your battlefield experience better than going off season when there are no crowds and, no leaves on the trees for better viewing (I spent three hours walking to the cemetary AND Culp's Hill, reading all the instructive signs and only encountered one jogger with his dog in that whole time). I suggest you get the tour guide package from Brian for $ 89, which includes a private tourguide, 2 tix to visitors center and a bottle of wine. Go to the museum first/early, see the cyclorama, movie and some of the museum, THEN take the private tour with your guide. (I had John Weixel who was great; affable, knowledgable and funny). If you finish the tour before the visitor center closes, you can go back-your ticket is good for the whole day. If your a real history buff like me, allow at LEAST 4 hours as the new center is very large and packed with info/short movies. The Dobbins House was highly recommended by many who stayed before for a great dinner, and I agree. It is within walking distance and is in the oldest structure in Gettysburg. HINT: If only 2 of you are dining, ask Brian to make reservations for you and ask for a table in the library. It is a cozy room with a fireplace. There are only three tables in this room and the only one table that seats 2 has VERY comfortable high back chairs and is close to the fireplace. Try the onion soup-it is the best. Be sure to walk from the Inn North up Baltimore street, to Lincoln Square. There are many historical buildings with instructive signs along the way (travel up one way and come down back to the hotel the other)-there are plenty of places to eat in the Square-ask Brian/Tessa to recommend one. If you are an early riser, you can walk to Culps hill in the twilight, climb the tower (you may have to jump a small gate about 20 feet up the stairs that may be locked this early) and you can see the sunrise as it basks over Cemetary Hill. However, the best vantage point is on the prometory of Little Round Top-from there you can see almost everything (except Culps Hill) including Devil's Den, the slaughter pen, plum run, the wheatfield, peach orchard, and all of Seminary and Cemetary Ridges. Be sure to go across the road and find the modest monument to the 20th Maine-that is the place Chamberlain held and swung down like a door hinge repulsing the Alabamians trying to take the Round Top. I was also the only one on the battlefield until I left for breakfast. There is only one seating for Breakfast (8:30 summer/9:00 am winter) and it is something you do not want to miss as you will be sitting along with other guests of the Inn. Being a non smoking property, everything is fresh and clean smelling. If you want to experience Gettysburg and do it first class-you can certainly do that here. Every E:MAIL I sent with questions was promptly answered and Brian even called us en route to warn us of the ice on the stairs leading from the parking lot. The ice was melted, due to his efforts. We really hope to return again, prehaps in the Spring or Fall. Enjoy!

This is an absolute jewel of an Inn and a 5-star experience. Tessa and Brian were fabulous and gracious hosts. Pristine accommodations. Extremely knowledgeable of the opportunities to tour the area and recommendations for dinning and other attractions. Premier location. Felt like "home" only better. Will return. Most high recommendation from an experienced traveler.

The first time we went to Gettysburg, we stayed in The Brickhouse Inn. We enjoyed the trip and our stay in the lovely inn so much, we decided to return the following year. A few years have passed since then and we just returned from our fourth trip. We cannot imagine a trip to Gettysburg without staying at The Brickhouse Inn. The experiences are inextricably linked for us. The atmosphere at the Inn is welcoming. The breakfasts are delicious, beautifully presented and provide a lovely way to start the day. Warm cookies and hot tea are ready for guests in the afternoon. The grounds around the Inn are beautifully landscaped and include a pond with a graded waterfall which offers a peaceful place to sit and reflect. We would and have enthusiastically recommended this Inn to our friends.

On our frequent visits with our daughter in the Hanover area we often walked past the Brickhouse imagining what it must be like to stay there. Last fall we treated ourselves to a weekend and have made it, hopefully, a tradition by staying there again this year. Tess and Brian have created an environment that touches all of the senses--that really wraps itself around you making you feel so warm and wonderful. The rooms are beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. The breakfasts, not to mention the afternoon cookies, are superb...always different, always beautifully presented. Sitting outside on the patio enjoying the surroundings or cuddled in a chair in the sitting room is total relaxation. Brian and Tessa are so easy to be with and take every step to assure your comfort.

The owners gave us marvelous suggestions to maximize our stay. Brian set up an excellent tour of the Battlefields as well as suggesting a wonderful storyteller/historian for Halloween night! He also made excellent restaurant suggestions. The Inn itself is charming, comfortable and immaculate. The gardens are exquisite and probably even more beautiful in the summer. We would definitely go back.

The Brickhouse Inn was a very nice experience for my family and I. The owner was gracious and charming. The food was wonderful. It was very clean and right in the center of everything in Gettysburg. I would recommend it to anyone.
