Brickhouse Inn Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 23 Gettysburg B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 22 April 2010

We just returned from two nights at the Brickhouse Inn and will never stay anywhere else in Gettysburg. We concur with all the well deserved praise for this fine establishment. The location is wonderful, the innkeepers are very welcoming and helpful and, however high your standards of cleanliness are, this B&B will exceed them. The décor is very charming and our room, the North Carolina suite, was welcoming and had the most comfortable bed. In late afternoons, we enjoyed the balcony with a garden view. We are only sorry it was too cool for breakfast in the garden, but the dining room was a cheery spot for the delicious breakfasts.

We highly recommend the battlefield tour with a private tour guide. Ask Brian or Tessa to book your guide as they know the best ones. She teamed us up with Stuart Dempsey, who was terrific. In 2 ½ hours with him we traveled the battlefield and the three days of the war, experiencing it as we never could on our own or with an audio tour.

You can walk up to the Culp’s Hill observation tower in about 15 minutes from the Inn. It was a lovely walk on a spring morning, and the views were well worth the climb. A few blocks north and you are downtown with many historic homes, shops, and restaurants. We're so glad all the good reviews led us to this B&B.

My wife decided to surprise me, a Civil War buff, with a Gettysburg mini-vacation for my birthday. As it turned out, the best part was not the return to the battlefield, but our stay at the Brickhouse Inn. The Inn is situated on the same street Union forces took in retreat to Cemetery Hill on the first day of the battle and that Lincoln took to make his famous speech. It also backs to Culp’s Hill. I can say we slept on the battlefield, but in comfort and style. The proprietors, Brian and Tess, are wonderful people who cannot do enough for you. The accommodations were spotless and invited you to sit, relax and soak in the period décor. We stayed in the Maryland Room at the front of the Inn on the second floor overlooking Baltimore Street. The room was a good size and provided all of the clean comfort Brian and Tess put into the entire property. It was a wonderful place to stay and easily placed on a list of, “…need to go back to.”

Our primary reason for coming to Gettysburg was to tour the battlefield- but we now would have another reason- just to stay at the Brickhouse Inn. It is a perfect rest stop in the perfect location for touring the historical sites, walking to restaurants and shopping too. We had excellent accomodations and breakfasts and Brian and Tessa want to make you feel right at home. The traffic noise( it is on a major street in Gettysburg) was louder than desired since we had the windows opened, but once it cooled down and the windows were closed it was no longer an issue .A beautiful garden in the back where we had breakfast added so much too. A wonderful, wonderful experience!

The Brickhouse Inn Bed & Breakfast in Gettysburg, PA is worth the money. The owners, Tessa and Brian, are gracious hostess/host that make sure your stay is top-notch. Tessa's breakfast are unique and a great way to begin your dad. We spent four days at the Inn and each breakfast was different and fulfilling. The service was first-rate and the accommodations extremely comfortable. Some days we had breakfast outside in the gardens which is so relaxing. Best place to stay!

B&B was fantastic. What made the trip really special was using the B&B to book the licensed guide. John Weixel is their "go to" guide and he was extremely good, very flexible for what I wanted to do (not a standardized tour). Using the B&B to book meant I had access to a great guide and I could meet him at the B&B. The B&B was charming, comfortable, and great food.

We first stayed at The Brickhouse Inn June, 2009. We had taken a day trip to Gettysburg but didn't see everything we wanted to, so we decided to spend the night. We walked down some of the streets and found the Brickhouse. We instantly fell in love with it. That night, my fiance proposed in the Illinois Room. We've been coming back to it ever since.

My husband and I stayed at the Brickhouse Inn, in the Maryland Room, to celebrate our Anniversary. The room was impeccably clean and decorated with abundant charm and ambience of a time gone-by - yet, included all the amenities for a comfortable stay.
The Innkeppers, Tess and Brian, were so accomodating, friendly and interractive. They were genuinely concerned about their guests' enjoying their visit to Gettysburg. Brian offered insights about touring the area, and Tess' breakfasts and home-baked cookies were delicious.
This Brickhouse Inn is sturdy and solid house, no creaking floors or squeaking doors - the woodwork and area rugs throughout lend a warm embrace of comfort and security.
My sister stayed down the hall with her husband and daughter in the New England Suite the same weekend, and if we were not aware of them occupying that room, we would not have known. The rooms are private and quiet. Even with the windows of the Maryland Room facing busy Baltimore Avenue, traffic noise was not even an issue.
Before leaving I purchased a pottery coffee mug from the Brickhouse Inn, becauseI wanted to bring a "piece of" this getaway home with me - memories of an experience we will not soon forget.
We recommend the Battlefield Tour (George was our guide, and he was Excellent.) Brian was instrumental in setting up our battlefield tour and dinner reservations - Thank you so much. Without hesitation, we recommend the Brickhouse Inn for your next visit to Gettysburg.
