I have been here three times & all 3 times were great. They were very helpful, friendly, clean & accommodating to my daughter who was only 1 at the time & also when we went and I was pregnant with my second child. The breakfast buffet is the greatest I have ever seen in any hotel & I've traveled a lot. I always recommend this place as it is not only perfect, the staff & location are perfect as well!

Had a wonderful family reunion at 1863 Inn of Gettysburg. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Great location; able to walk to many sights and restaurants. Rooms are basic but come with refrigerators and are very clean. Nice pool area. Would definitely consider a return visit or using it as a future venue for family gatherings. (Lovely room available for rent on the premises and staff will work with you to arrange catering; meal was delicious!).

Room Tip: Quiter rooms in the back of the hotel facing pool. Rooms in front are on the main street but have a...

What sets it apart is it's location, within walking distance of the entire downtown area, multiple restaurants, tourist sites and tour starts. Unless you're looking for luxury or a romantic setting, the 1863 Inn should be at the top of your list.

This hotel is in a perfect location for seeing Gettysburg. We walked up the hill to get the tour bus and to the cemetery and the battlefield there. Walk to town, shops, restaurants, and other museums. Pool was an added plus. Everything well maintained. The young woman at reception was professional and polite and helpful.
Breakfast basic.
would recommend to travelers to Gettysburg

Room Tip: get a room in the back off the street free parking is a plus

My husband and I stayed their for our anniversary on 6/20 and 6/21. I was amazed with our view. It was the perfect place sitting among so much within walking distance. We did more this weekend than we ever did all the other times we've stayed. Mostly because we walked everywhere. Our room was spacious and clean. The staff were all very nice and so helpful. Since we are not big breakfast eaters yours had everything we needed. My husband loved your sausage biscuits n gravy...lol We enjoyed it so much that we signed up for your Loyalty Program and are already trying to figure out when we can come back. It was completely booked the weekend we stayed but yet it was so quiet. Love your place and already have been recommending your hotel to all our friends. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Sorry it has taken awhile to write this review. I stayed at the hotel May 6 and 7. My husband and I have stayed there several times as Loyalty Rewards guests; this time I went alone just to get away for a few days.
I love this hotel. Even when it is full of guests, it still seems quiet compared to other places that we have stayed. It is close to just about everything. I have wanted to see the Jennie Wade House for years and finally got to go there; it is right next door to the hotel.
The breakfast is okay, it offers just about everything a person could want in the morning. I am not a breakfast person, the yogurt and a pastry suited me just fine.
The only thing that was missing was the "goodie" bag that the Loyalty Program guests receive when they check in. I always bring my own water anyway, but this was the first time I didn't get it. If this is a cost-cutting thing, I certainly understand.

Room Tip: The fifth floor is quieter and possibly haunted, but there is a lot of street noise. for some reason...

We liked this hotel a lot. For location, it can't be beat. Steinwehr Ave is right there across the way. You can walk to the Dobbin House, or Tommy's Pizza, or Gettysburg Eddie's, all highly recommended by us. There are several ice cream places to choose from, and if ghost walks are your thing, Steinwehr is ghost walk central. The purportedly haunted Farnsworth House and all its entertainment options are a short walk the other way.

The parking at the 1863 is ample, something that can't be said for some other lodgings right in the heart of town. The lobby is nice and the people are friendly. This is an older style building, with outdoor corridors. We asked for a quiet room on the top (fifth) floor. Our room was in the back, away from the street noise. Be aware that there is a lot of street noise in Gettysburg! While we were there they were having one of their motorcycle events. It was fun to watch the colorful cycles traveling up and down Baltimore St., but they are loud!

The room itself was very nice, and quiet. The hotel was pretty full at least one of the nights we were there, and we didn't hear anything from the other rooms. The heating/ac is a window unit, which functioned nicely as a white noise machine without being obtrusive, but I don't think we even needed it. One caveat: Don't book a room in the annex building! It's a new building, but the walls there are paper thin. We stayed there on a previous trip a few years ago, and wouldn't book it again.

There were two double beds in the room, which were firm without being hard. We found them very comfortable. The room had good lighting, a nice easy chair, a desk, and a fridge. The bathroom was large and spotless, with a long counter for toiletries and three electrical outlets. Controls in the tub were easy to use and there was plenty of immediate hot water.

The only minor quibbles we had were with the internet, which was just slightly slower than some. It functioned, though, and it wasn't a big problem. Also, the free breakfast is just a bit sub-par compared to what some other hotels offer. There were no waffle machines, just eggos and other toastable stuff, along with danish. They did offer a pre-made wrapped breakfast sandwich with microwave instructions. One day we were there, they had a large crockpot of sausage gravy, with biscuits. You'll find something to eat, and there are quite a few tables.

For comparison purposes, on previous trips to Gettysburg we've stayed at the Choice Suites (new and nice but not really walkable to town); the Dobbin House Bed & Breakfast (spacious suite but inconvenient and limited parking); the Gettysburg Hotel on the Square (again inconvenient parking, and a very noisy room - we could hear the person upstairs turn around in bed); the annex here at the 1863 when it was the Holiday Inn (more paper thin walls); and the Quality Inn on Steinwehr (the worst experience we had - noise and parking problems and an unpleasant guy in charge).

We plan to return in the fall, and this will be our place to stay.

Room Tip: If traffic noise bothers you, ask for a room in the rear.

Thank you wonderful review. We are glad that you enjoyed your visit and plan to return this Fall. We have a great staff here at the hotel. They do their best to make sure that each guest is happy and comfortable. The housekeepers do an excellent job and the rooms are very clean. The Front Desk crew is always available to answer any questions and help you plan your visit. And we can't forget our maintenance staff! They work very hard to make sure that everything is in good working order and the property is well kept. I have had the pleasure of working here for close to 35 years and am very proud of this hotel and the people that make it function every day. We love knowing that we played a part in making our guests visit a memorable one! Thank you again! We look forward to seeing you soon!
