“Eye Opening Eleanor”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

The more I learned about Eleanor Roosevelt the more I wanted to know. Born a Roosevelt and dying a Roosevelt she may have well been one of the most interesting of the lot with the possible exception of her Uncle Teddy. She was a remarkable and fascinating women who did all she could for others and put their needs first. Van-Kill, her home is remarkable in it's simplicity and homeyness, not a grand home at all but a place where she could be comfortable and welcome friends and family. Don't miss a chance to visit, you'll be glad you did.

“Bring Kleenex”

Are you a feminist? Lover of all things ER? Between this and the FDR, you may be inspired to run for office or start a revolution. NPS Ranger Tom (?) Was a true gem and ER lover. That may not be his nams, but he's young w a beard.

“A lot to see for a retreat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014

It was very interesting to see her private residence and hear a great deal I never knew about her before. The guide was very knowledgeable about her subject and was a very nice lady.
Be advised that there are shuttles to take you there from the FDR Visitor center. Also, the address on the official brochures is for FDR 's estate, NOT Eleanor's. You can always get directions at the visitors center if you want to drive up yourself.

“About 10 Minutes From the FDR Library - Worth The Drive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2014

Eleanor and FDR do not seem to have been a close couple. This was her hide-away where she could avoid the many people at the mansion . . . . . not the least of whom was FDR's mother.

“Informative but small”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

The guide was helpful and informative. However, we were not allowed up stairs on this visit. The movies of Eleanor were not functioning. The preliminary movie was excellent. The grounds were beautiful. I sat outside for a moment and a park ranger came and talked with me. Very friendly. Ranger Bob was a hoot
