“Wonderful dinner and a special evening”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2014 via mobile

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner. We each ordered the iceberg wedge with blue cheese dressing and the 12-ounce strip steak. I had the twice-baked potato and my husband had the lyonnaise potatoes and we shared the mushroom/onion side. Everything was delicious. The steaks were prepared just as we ordered, medium-rare, and served on a hot grill plate. They had a wonderful flavor. Both types of potatoes were very good, but the twice-baked was exceptional. The crusty bread was also very nice, and we enjoyed an excellent bottle of Barolo. There was a very nice selection of desserts, but we both chose the homemade rice pudding (made by Joseph's wife), and we were not disappointed. It was very good. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Joseph, who was very welcoming and friendly. We were invited to the bar for an after-dinner drink, and Joseph generously offered us a taste of a very special bottle of Jack Daniels. We were treated to great live entertainment by singers Michael and Marie, with a cameo by Ernie, who is not only a talented singer, but a very funny guy. All of this turned an excellent dinner into a very special evening.

The music was good but our guest were great. I am glad that you enjoyed your evening at Joseph's. We try to have Michael & Maria a couple of Friday each month. It just adds to the evening. I am glad you got to hear them and I am glad we got to meet also. Thank You, Joseph

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014

We had 30 minutes to get in and out before we attended the tour of Eleanor Roosevelt's Cottage. Michael said he could get us in and out in time….HE DID…(recommendations were on point)...But the food was so good that we wanted to stay longer and enjoy. We recommend this restaurant to anyone who goes to Hyde Park….Great Food & Great Service & Atmosphere….we will be back in May for sure…..

“Amazing food with perfect charm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014

Excellent selection of many different steaks with a knowledgeable staff to help you select the best cut. Seafood was excellent, very fresh and just the right amount of pasta to go along with it. Tony and Michael were able to provide very helpful suggestions on many different local attractions. Perfect for a romantic night out, a large gathering, and everything in between. Great variety of the menu, from steak to seafood to chicken and many more dishes.

“Greak Steak”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2014

After reading multiple reviews on multiple web sites about this restaurant, we booked with a little trepidation. While there were many reviews of "excellent", there were a few real bad ones as well. Our experience was very positive. As a "veteran" of NYC steakhouses, lets just say this might be as close as you can get to that experience in the Hudson Valley, at least as far as the steak itself.

Joseph's is located in Hype Park NY in what was once a small catering facility to my recollection. The ambience/décor is ummm...plain? Anyway if you've ever been to Peter Lugar's in Brooklyn, you know your not going for aesthetics, your going for the steak. No, its not Peter Lugars steak..but it is very very good. My wife and I started off with a couple of cocktails, well made and generous, followed by salads...pretty decent and only $4! (the salads, not the drinks). We followed with the 36 once Porterhouse steak for 2 and it was as close to perfect as you can get. Maybe just a tab more rare than the medium rare we ordered, but actually that's how we like it. It was sliced NY style , well presented on a sizzling platter and it was delicious. We had a couple of sides, creamed spinach which my wife loved and some rather soggy onions and mushrooms..ok, at 5 per side not bad but not the greatest. (oh and a couple of glasses of Cab with the steak) Since we skipped appetizers we went for the dessert (chocolate mousse cake and a cognac) to finish off an excellent meal. Its not cheap..total for all this was $176 for 2 people, but I'd say I would go back again ..just for the steak. Service was very good IMO.

Always nice to see a good review from a local guest. I can tell by your review that you have eaten at a few steakhouse in New York City also. Nice to know that you can get that kind of steak in Hyde Park and for a lot less money. Our Dry Aged 34oz Porterhouse for two is $70, it's a great steak for the price. Try our Bone-in Strip or Cowboy next time they are also outstanding steaks. Again Thank You Joseph
