“Great Dinner at Bocuse”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

During a visit to the Hudson Valley, we decided to celebrate my recent retirement with dinner at The Culinary Institute of America's Bocuse Restaurant. It was great! Due to their high level of professionalism, you have no sense at all that the staff are students. The food and service were top rate, as was the extensive wine list. We enjoyed a wonderful three course dinner, starting with glasses of prosecco, and including a bottle of wine, for a very affordable price. If you are in the area, I would strongly recommend checking out Bocuse.

The only thing to be aware of is that if you are not familiar with the campus, it is not immediately obvious how to get to the restaurants, but, in the grand scheme of things, that is inconsequential.

“A Slice of Heaven on the Hudson”
Reviewed 14 November 2013

This beautiful college on a bluff overlooking the Hudson River was breathtaking! The grounds were planted with fruit trees, and vegetables. The building was a huge stone structure with had many of the original features from its former life as a Jesuit Seminary. There was a gift store that included many cookbooks as well as kitchen items, several restaurants, and a tour of the building. Can't wait to go back!

“Great Experience”
Reviewed 13 November 2013

We went on a 10am Monday tour. It was such a great experience. I highly recommend this tour. They broke us out into 4 smaller tours with each smaller group being led by a current student. We went down hallways and peered into windows into many different working kitchens. Note that you cannot take pictures inside during the tour. Each time a chef walked by we'd clear a space and our guide would greet the chef with such professionalism. Respect is highly regarded here. Our guide Doug explained in detail about the classes, programs, and even eating and living at the dorms as well as different internship opportunities. He patiently answered tons of questions. It was very fascinating. The buildings, gardens, statues and scenery is beautiful. You can easily spend a full day or two visiting CIA, FDR and Vanderbuilt mansion as well as tons of shopping in the area. When my 10 yr old son walked into CIA he had stars in his eyes about going to school there when he grew up but after listening to the guide and hearing how demanding and stressful being a chef can be at times he wasn't sure it would be for him but that was exactly the point of me bringing him there - to see, hear and experience things first hand. I've eaten at American Bounty in the past but I didn't make reservations this trip. I just was interested in the tour this time. We popped our heads into the apple pie cafe but there was a long line so we left and went down the street to eat at the Everready diner which was fantastic.

“very interesting walking the halls”
Reviewed 5 November 2013

We came with a friend who is a former food editor. She is very familiar with the CIA. We walked all around behind the scenes. Classes were in session. It was wonderful to peak in the doors and windows and watch the action. We also visited the cafe and had a lovely treat. The views of the Hudson River from the campus are exceptional. Also make sure and take time to walk through the herb garden. The bookstore is amazing ! Every cookbook and gadget you could ever want.

“Great Tour of Campus”
Reviewed 3 November 2013

This review is just for the campus tour. We made reservations by phone months in advance and paid $6 per person when we got there. Parking was free. The tour lasted for about an hour starting at 4pm and was conducted by a student. The campus/buildings are beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to enroll as students. Be aware that the tours are only conducted on weekdays at 4pm and not when the campus is closed for school holidays or other events. Better to check their schedule and make phone reservations ahead of time to avoid being disappointed.
