Owner description: Since opening in August 1988, Blackhawk Museums has displayed classic automobiles and myriad exhibitions exemplifying art, technology and history. Local students, residents and international visitors enjoy educational presentations, cultural programs and volunteer opportunities. Since the beginning it has been home to the Blackhawk Automotive Museum with over 55 vintage, classic, rare and sports automobiles on display. These automobiles are regarded as works of art and range from the dawn of the motoring age through the 1960's. In 2015, a new exhibition, The Spirit of the Old West opened, telling the story of the western frontier from the perspective of both the Native Americans and the settlers before, during and after the expansion west. The exhibition features authentic artifacts from the period, a large diorama depicting key historic moments, scenes of wildlife from the frontier and other elements that bring the past to life. Other exhibitions on display include the Wheelchair Foundation Gallery and an exhibition of Juke Boxes from the Golden Age and vintage oil pumps.

“Amazing collection of automobiles!”
Reviewed 12 January 2014 via mobile

I visited here with my sister and my 14 yr old son. He loves older car and devotes a great deal of time to photographing older/antique cars wherever he finds them. He loved this museum! You don't have to be male to enjoy the beautiful display. The creativity and ingenuity is amazing. There are two floors of cars that are displayed in a climate controlled, pristine environment. Also, there is a beautiful display of German locomotives on the bottom floor as well as a gift shop. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit!

“For the quintessential automobile enthusiast”
Reviewed 10 January 2014

This place is stunning and is that way every time i visit. THey regularly rotate their displays so that if you go 3-4 times a year you will see many different examples of literally one of a kind automobiles from the days of high fashion and early automotive history.

If you have any love of how fashion, design, and power get blended into exquisite automobiles this is the automobile museum to visit.

This is a MUST SEE for the car enthusiast. Not since the old Harrah's collection was broken up were so many great cars assembled. in addition to the cars, the museum itself is spectacular.
