“Historical spot that needsTLC”

stopped by while in area. Its an old site with earthworks that the south used to defend the river with. It has seen better days. Very overgrown shrubs and needs a good raking of leaves. So overgrown hard to located the earthworks.some old rusted cannons are there. They do not look like from civil war period. A marker is there as well. If your into history, especially American Civil War=go ahead and stop by while passing through Jacksonville. it's right off the east beltway. Takes 10 to 20 minutes max to walk the park and it's FREE.

“Childhood playground”
Reviewed 28 January 2012

It seems to me this is an incorrect address for the fort but regardless, it is located in the residential area where I spent many years as a child. What wonderful memories I have running and playing on what use to be deep trenches, lush green vegetation and a little wooden bridge that we were sure housed some foreign creature from our imagination. These days, it holds my memories but has lost its appeal with some years of vandalism and a less than desirable neighborhood. Regardless, if in the neighborhood stop in for a small dose of Jacksonville history.
