“Had a great time and well worth the visit!”
Reviewed 25 January 2013

This is a smaller museum but my father and I somehow spent well over 2 hours checking out their collection and talking to the guide. If you are interested in the American Civil War, visiting this museum is a must! Be sure to ask the guys working there about the hate-mail they get from uneducated wackos who complain about the Confederate flag flying outside under the American flag (it's a Civil War museum, duh!).

“The War of Northern Aggression (from the Guides point of view))”
Reviewed 13 June 2012

This museum is fairly small but does have some interesting exhibits and some tour guides who know a great deal about the Civil War (from, as the name implies, a southern point of view). With the tour and discussions with the guides, I would allow 1-2 hours for the tour of civil war uniforms, weapons, battlefield exhibits, etc.

“Great Learning Experience”
Reviewed 14 July 2011

This museum is a great find. The person conducting the tour was very knowledgeable about the museum artifacts and the history surrounding them. The tour kept our 15 year old son' s attention, he said that he really enjoyed it and learned a lot. There are some remarkable items on display- don't miss the opportunity to see them up close. There is also a library with books about the civil war era. Very reasonable suggested donation- the museum does not receive any government funding.

“Don't Miss This Outstanding Museum When in Jacksonville, Florida”
Reviewed 7 October 2009

The Museum of Southern History is located at 4304 Herschel Street in a nice part of town. It has well executed exhibits, primarily about the War Between the States, and many very rare artifacts. There is also a section about World War II. The staff is exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. One feature is a library area that has over 5,000 volumes. You can look up your ancestors that may have participated in the WBTS. I was able to find exactly what I was seeking concerning artillery carriages. This gem is privately funded, so it endeavors to bring history to life in a very truthful manner. Adult admission is $3.00. As with any venue, be sure to call for the latest hours of operation, etc. The phone number is [--]. While in the area, consider having lunch or supper at Pastiche ["Southern Comfort with a French Flair"]. It is just north of the museum at 4260 Herschel Street. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the history museum. It is well worth a trip. You will not be disappointed.
