“Great place for a walk, short or long”
Reviewed 28 June 2012

If you'd like to see the "real Florida", this is a good place to hike. The trail from the parking lot off Mt. Pleasant Rd. is only about a half mile to where the original owner of the land lived. You can see the remains of his cabin, and if you choose, visit his gravesite at the little cemetery inside. You can walk the short loop, a longer loop, or a one way walk past "Alligator lake", (named for a reason, I suppose) that exits into another parking lot, this one off Ft. Caroline Rd. You're in the marsh, you can walk out to see the St. Johns River, you can just enjoy the "real Florida."

“One of the best hikes in the Jacksonville area”
Reviewed 30 April 2012

This was probably the best hike I've made in the Jackosnville area. The walk was moderate with a few small elevation changes... just enough to get the heart working a little harder but not actually strenuous. I've been hiking in Florida for several years and I saw more biodiversity and areas of interest on this walk than in that just about any location I've been to: High bush huckelberry, prickly pear catus in bloom, some new types of lichen I've never seen before and some wonderfull old live oaks, It was truly a wonderful afternoon hike... made much more so by the observation tower giving us a great view of the marshes and the fantastic shell mounds covering much of the area and the stories these mounds tell us of our ancient neighbors.
The trail is well maintained and while it is a little narrow and closed for some it its length, it was well marked.

“Wilderness trail”
Reviewed 25 April 2012

Quiet, natural area that offers hiking trails that lead down to the river. The trail winds through the preserve although most people travel only the trail down to the water and back. A parking lot with bathrooms is available at the trailhead. An observation deck that used to have a bench is at the end of the trail. Unfortunately when the Park Service did some repairs to the observation tower, they decided to remove the bench. That makes it impossible for tired hikers to rest when they get to the end of the trail unless they sit on the steps. The bench provided a wonderful place for birdwatchers to rest and wait for the perfect photograph. At times the trees of Round Marsh are covered with birds.

“Great Family Trail Options”
Reviewed 9 April 2012

There are so many different trails that you can take here that are family & pet friendly. There are harder & easier ones too, so people can also bike here. Amazing spots in the trees & marsh ends to take pictures at.
