“Wonderful place for privacy!”
Reviewed 31 January 2009

The Riverdale Inn is a wonderful place to explore Jacksonville away from the big city feel. The house is well maintained and comfortable. The staff is very pleasent and helpful. We attended a concert the night we arrived so we slept through breakfast. On previous stays, the breakfast was very nice.
The Riverdale Inn is a wonderful place to stay if you are unsure about staying at a B&B. The Inn allows you to just enjoy yourself without being overhelpful or making you feel like you are staying in someone's home. My husband and I know how important this is. We own a Bed and Breakfast Inn and for Innkeepers to get away and enjoy themselves is a rare treat. We always choose The Riverdale Inn for our escapes from reality.

Our brief weekend was a wonderful escape from our normally hectic schedules. The Windsor Suite was the perfect romantic getaway setting. The decor was lovely and the jacuzzi tub was an added bonus! The staff was wonderful...helpful and extremely pleasant. Breakfast was scrumptious and the varied choices for breakfast were a step up from your "normal" B&B. We look forward to returning for a longer stay.

A great place to stay. The accommodations are very attractive and the bar is wonderful. I didn't eat dinner there but the menu looked wonderful. Breakfast is part of the package (B&B!) and an excellent meal.

We just stayed for 2 nights at the Riverdale Inn during the Gator Bowl. It was great! We (2 ladies) were able to walk to the Landing (a BEAUTIFUL walk along the water) and festivities, returning late at night, and felt very safe. The inn is beautiful and in a wonderful part of the city. It was easy to find and close to everything.

It was so much more fun staying here than staying at an impersonal hotel. There were other Clemson fans staying there who we met in the cozy tavern, so that was really fun. The bar in the tavern was beautiful and so charming, and the bartender was a darling girl. The breakfasts were fabulous and cooked to order!

We will definitely stay here again if we return to Jacksonville!

As I travel each week for business and usually stay in hotels, to find this B&B just across the street from my site was great.
I travel to Jacksonville every 4-6 weeks and look forward to the stay and also the excellent restaurant on site.

The Riverdale Inn is a charming old home restored into a small inn located within one of Jacksonville's more special neighborhoods--Riverside/Avondale/Five Points. It is positioned as a historic bed and breakfast, but as the restaurant serves dinner and Sunday brunch too, it is a bit more of an inn.

Staff is cordial and friendly, to a point.

While the surroundings are pleasant and clean, I don't think the Inn constitutes a very good value. Our accommodation, The Park Suite, really was more of a room, with a king bed, loveseat in front of a gas fireplace, and a private bathroom. If you believe a suite is at least two rooms, besides the bathroom, you'd not consider this a suite. I do not. As well, the room was not really any larger than a standard hotel room. Bathroom was fine, with a standing shower and white tile. Bath shampoos and soaps were hotel branded--nothing notable there. Bed linens were not particularly upgraded either. The paint on the walls was applied unevenly; I mentioned this to one of the owners on checkout, and was told they planned to repaint at some point. The "fireplace", though distinctive with pink tile work around the firebox/hearth, had only a rather anemic short gas flame from the artificial logs. This projected all the romance of watching a gas stovetop burner.

Breakfasts were good, though likely out of necessity, a bit prefab--both days, a sort of quiche/frittata was served with meats, grits and some fruit. Belgian waffles were an option. Given the prefab formulation of these breakfasts, the food really wasn't as hot as it might have been. The 8 to 9 timeframe for breakfast, particularly over weekends (and especially over the daylight savings time switch weekend) seemed a bit rigid, and earlier than I would like--given that weekends are often the only time people have to sleep in. (I did mention this to one of the proprietors when we left--she was pleasant, but noted that they really couldn't move the times.) A disappointment.

Our room--even if called a suite--was $185 a night plus tax, including the breakfast for two. Given the above, I don't think the price was right--and no, there was nothing going on in Jacksonville that might have hiked up the price.

The neighborhood, both in terms of surroundings and convenience is wonderful. The St. John's River is a block away, and the nearby park enables waterside strolls amidst gardens and sculpture. Five Points, a rather funky stretch of cafes, shops and an occasional tattoo parlor, is just a few blocks from the Inn. Just down the road, the shops in Avondale are interesting, as well as the numerous restaurants and large homes lining the tree-dense streets. And downtown Jacksonville is less than 5 minutes away by car.

For gay visitors, 616, a local bar, is just a few blocks away on Park Street. As well, the Inn seemed unfazed that two men were staying in the same room.

This is a reasonably priced, well located inn. Walking distance to river, YMCA. Close to downtown, football stadium. Rooms are comfortable. Only possible negatives -- inflexible breakfast and coffee times, although breakfast is good. Also, no business center.
