“Not quite up to par for a Residence Inn”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2011

I travel quite a bit on business, usually for 1-2 weeks at a time. This particular Residence Inn was not quite up to the standards that I expect from a Residence Inn. It felt more like they were maintaining to the standards of a budget motel.

The Negatives:
1. Humidity. Granted, Jacksonville is a humid climate, so you have to expect a certain degree of moisture in the rooms, but I was disappointed that the rooms actually smelled dank and had a hint of mildew and mold.
2. Cleanliness. It seemed like the cleaning crew was just a bit sloppy or casual with cleaning the rooms. It certainly wasn't unsanitary or disgusting, but it certainly was never cleaned as thoroughly as I would expect for a Residence Inn.
3. Poor coordination of amenities. For example, they had a nicely equipped guest laundry room that operated on quarters, but had no change machine and on two occasions did not have quarters available at the front desk. Also, there were several times in our two-week stay that there were no clean towels at the pool in the evening.

The Positives:
1. Convenient location. The hotel has a central location south of Jacksonville, close to restaurants, shops, and many businesses. Considering how spread out Jacksonville is, being within a 15-minute drive of the necessities is good.
2. The breakfast room and other community amenities were clean and well-maintained. The food is certainly nothing to write home about, but it's a pretty decent (free) full breakfast every morning and there is a light meal/snack provided in the evenings Monday-Thursday.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top (3rd) floor.

I was disappointed in this hotel. The location is good - it was near the company that I was visiting. But that is about the only positive thing. The bed was hard as a rock, the feather pillows were awful. The couch was stained, the mesh curtains were stained, the windows were dirty. The water in the shower smelled like sulfer or something else awful. I think I smelled worse after taking a shower.

They have hot breakfast available each morning. The selection is so-so. The eggs were pretty watery. The "welcome home" dinner food is severly lacking. The "salad bar" consists of a big bowl of lettuce and your choice of ranch dressing. They also had a cheese night, which was nothing more than cheese and crackers. I guess I expected a little more.

Finally, the girl at the front desk that works in the evenings flirts with anything that walks. Especially men.

Room Tip: Ask for a 3rd floor room to avoid noise from above

the duration of my trips are always long. So I tend to stay in the extended stay type hotels, with some exceptioms. All properties despite sharing the same brand name vary considerably.

This Residence Inn is mostly average. It's an outdoor type but with locked hallways in each building. The room amenities and layout looks as if it was built in the early 90s. It is a nice property. The pool and the inner walk ways well maintained. the location is fairly close to an outdoor modern shopping mall complex. But not walking distance like another chain is.

When i checked in my room had CRT TV's. Days later to my pleasant surprise I came back from work and I had TWO 40inch flat screens with remoted waiting for me. That's two 40inches! Very nice. If you are into your TV you can't go wrong with this hotel. Now if they could get more channels on their cable line up.

The breakfast is good and hosted well. The evening meals could at times offer a little more volume in their main entree.

Their internet service is below average but not awful like some hotels.

But again overall this is an average Residence Inn. But for longer term stays there's better options in the area and Jacksonville.

Great location with easy access to everythingl, superb staff that go out of their way to accomodate any need.
However, this property is very outdated. Tv's are ancient, internet is very slow, and our room was loaded with mold. Not to mention that we reserved a king bedded room but were given a room with one double bed that occupied most of the room.
Next time, we will be staying at the full service Marriott.

Ok just ok... have stayed at many Residence Inns and this one has a super location, very safe as well, but the rooms are lacking. bathrooms are all old, kitchens are not equipped with minimum Residence Inn requirements hit or miss room by room if you need pots or pans, or items to cook with etc. no dish soap for the past 5 trips in kitchen at this location, TV's are old and poor quality. No consistent room quality like most RI. Great location for the business traveler and the staff is everchanging but they try. Hope they remodel very soon. It needs it in the worst way.

Just got done staying here for one week. We stayed at this hotel because I was with my grandmother, and she had stayed here before. I had been in Jacksonville back in March and stayed at the Staybridge (which couldn't have been better), but I figured what's one week. First of all the place is outdated. You are not getting what you are paying for. You will pay a premium to stay somewhere that saw its best days back in the 90s. Second, our room had black mold in the air vents (which is a big deal for me as I suffer from severe allergies). We checked all vents, there was mold on the vents in both bedrooms and the living room. Maintenance had to come fix the hot water in the shower while we were here as it wouldn't get above luke-warm, and one of our phones didn't work. We went to do our laundry and not only was it expensive ($1.75 for the washer and another $1.75 for the dryer) but also we discovered beer had been poured in all four dryers and the can was tossed in one of the washers. The entire hotel is in BAD need of a renovation. I will say that the people who work here are extremely friendly - especially the housekeeper, and the front desk staff, but it's not enough to overcome the hotel itself. Unless they do a complete renovation, I wouldn't stay here again if someone paid me. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Staybridge down the street. That whole hotel is brand new with granite countertops, flat screen tvs, nice beds, and best of all No Moldy Air Vents! Our rate there was actually cheaper, the hotel is basically an entire class above this, it's just as convenient, and the people there are friendly too (I actually looked into switching there halfway through this stay, but they were booked).

The hotel's location is pretty good if yu want to be close to the outdoor shopping mall and butler blvd. UNF is not that far away either.
We stayed two nights. I wanted a 2- bedroom but was only able to get a single bedorom suite. Size was good enough for the lil ones to run around (downstairs guest werent too happy about that). The room was clean. Was a bit suprised that housekeeping leaves early (before 8 pm druing the week). The front desk staff was very attentive and personally made sure I got what I needed.
The folwong day housekeeping did a great job at cleaning up after us.(kids always make a mess and we were in a hurry to go to the event that morning). Kuddos to them.
Breakfast could have been better. Some more fresh fruit, fresher bagels, and a lil more giest friendly attendant would have been nice.
All in all the hotel is a good deal. i recommend it.
