Stayed 2 nights in July. At first I was disappointed, but not by the second day. This is an old river/sea town hard by the Columbia River. They have a Riverwalk and you can walk from The Holiday Inn Express to Buoy Beer for a good meal and excellent riverside views. Big ships come and go under the nearby bridge. Ft Clatsop and Cape Disappointment are very interesting, especially the latter, which has nice hiking trails and tremendous views of the mouth of the mighty Columbia!

A very good museum that covers the early days of sailing along the Washington and Oregon coast and into the Columbia River, up to current US Coast Guard activities. Docked next to the museum is the former Coast Guard lightship Columbia that is open for tours. Note that it is not accessible to wheelchairs

My husband and I went on the ship's excursion for this town. We really enjoyed the Columbia River Maritime Museum. We learned about the Bar and how dangerous the water is where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. Water swells can reach as high as 40 feet and many boats were lost at sea in this area. It is one of the best maritime museums in the U.S. We also went to Fort Clatsop and visited where Lewis and Clark lived for three months in1805. We also saw the Astoria Column which has murals of the Northwest history between 1792 and 1818.

I can't say enough about Astoria. It is one of our favorite places to spend a long weekend. Only 2 hours from Portland, it has something for everyone. The Maritime Museum is one of the best in the USA, the Astoria Column has breathtaking views, the Trolley is always a treat, Fort Clatsop (where Lewis and Clark spent the winter) is always great, what about a little excitement with an adventure on a zip line, not to mention all the excellent restaurants and shops. We love returning time after time.

Spent a lovely weekend in Astoria, OR and had great food, lovely vistas, chatty sea lions, charming Fisher Poets, wonderfully preserved buildings, and felt like I could live there. Spent the weekend in a wonderful Airbnb in Warrenton, just a few miles from the activities, but quiet and quaint. Love visiting Astoria. It is certainly a small town, but one with a big heart.
