This is one those kinds of plases everyone should go at least once. The view is amazing and the raw power of Mother Nature is fully on view for an experience you won't soon forget. Take a water bottle, a coat and a book and spend an hour here. Wonderful! It will be very likely windy so go prepared for weather and bear in mind that the drive out there is not a quick one. Worth it, though.

We really appreciated being able to see the famous Astoria bar. It was a beautiful, calm day so it wasn't as exciting as it can be at times, but it was beautiful.

This area gives you access to several beaches and eventually takes you to the south Columbia river jetty. Along the way you can see some remains from the railroad that carried rocks to the jetty. When you get to he final viewpoint you have great views of ships coming and going. This is part of Fort Stevens state park and worth the few miles of driving. Many people enjoy this area on bicycles. There is also picnicking and a nice lake close by.

We enjoyed driving to each lot and exploring the various features. The ruins of the battle bunker, the remains of the shipwreck, the platform to see around the rock wall, and then the beach between the Pacific and the Columbia River.
