“Young / Hip Hotel on the coast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Commodore Hotel recently and loved the place to death. Living In Portland, Oregon it's always nice to get out of the city and try different/unique hotels on the coast and the Commodore didn't let us down. Imagine the Ace Hotel but with a coastal twist/feel to it. Friendly desk staff, rad coffee shop off the lobby and STAIRS to use! Yes, stairs! That was a plus for sure. Don't be a cheap-o and spend the extra money to get a private bathroom. Good bathroom products, comfy bed and hardwood floors. I would definitely be back next time visiting Astoria. Word.

Killer location, great price and incredible service. The staff was beyond accommodating and the room was great.
Unfortunately you get to hear every conversation within a block of your room. Astoria has a much more urban vibe than other cities on the Oregon coast and people are out much later. This is a good thing unless your a light sleeper.
If you are a sound sleeper or love big cities hotels where you can hear every noise on the street and around you then you will love the this hotel. If you are not then pick somewhere else.

Love this place - the design and decor are excellent quality, like you'd see in Seattle or Portland. Welcomed warmly and got settled quickly. I chose a single room w/shared bath on the interior to keep any road noise at bay. I was on the top floor, and still enjoyed large vintage swing-open window that opened between hotel and neighbor. Nice sink and platform bed; flat screen TV (they have a good assortment of free DVDs to borrow at front desk). They also offer iPod alarm clocks. The hotel is in a great location for walking around downtown Astoria. They also have an excellent coffeeshop in the building, where I enjoyed one breakfast. The hall bathroom and shower was gorgeous - Euro fixtures and tons of marble.
One issue: radiator heat was overly warm. Even off, I was getting the radiant heat from floors below. The open window helped until a huge storm blew in on the final night. This situation was beyond the control of the hotel, its design or me! Bec/of the rattling storm (we're talking 80 mph winds through downtown...), I got up at 3:30am to head home. Staff person woke up (or was up) to instruct me on how to drop off keys and leave building at such an early hour [the front door is locked w/room key; not an option when you're hitting the road to beat a huge storm]. BTW, I did have to dodge a huge downed tree on Hwy 30 about 6 mi outside Astoria!
Would stay here again - bring ear plugs to combat wind or traffic if you're a light sleeper.

Room Tip: I recommend a single room "inside" with windows facing the neighbor building for more quie...

My friend and I took a little weekend trip to the OR coast, and she booked us a cabin at the Commodore. I was a little nervous that the rooms looked so small, but I slept so well and it was so cozy and comfortable! I loved the decor, a perfect mix of vintage, rustic, nautical, and modern looks. The shared bathroom and shower (one at a time, not communal!) were not an issue. We never had to wait in line, and actually I never even saw anyone else when I headed down the hall. This restoration project was so well done! I could literally move in to one of the cabins and be totally happy. Also, the front desk staff was beyond friendly and funny. I actually ended up talking to one of the ladies for about an hour one night, just about life and travel and all that good stuff. I would rather pay $70 or $80 a night for a cozy, lovely "cabin" and share the bathroom, than pay that or more for an ugly, sterile chain hotel.

Room Tip: The cabins are small, but in the center of the hotel, so they are very, very quiet! I would definite...

This was our first time visiting The Commodore. This place is way cool. The rooms are nicely appointed, extremely clean and the beds are very, very comfortable. We reserved a room without a bathroom, but, not once during our stay, did we encounter anyone else using the shower or toilet. The hotel is centrally located, so we walked everywhere from it. We didn't hear traffic, as others have stated, but we did hear our neighbors. Fortunately, they were in bed before us. I will definetely stay here again.

This downtown Astoria hotel was recently reopened after a thorough and excellent renovation: the dark woods, which gave the hotel a warmthlacking in many modern establishments were preserved along with a tastefully decorated entrance foyer. The rooms were similarly well decorated, the bed comfortable and the bathroom spacious. The web site advised that our room # 305 facing the main street was somewhat loud: those who sleep less soundly should reserve another. The staff was welcoming and helpful. We found dining and breakfast options within a short walking distance from the hotel. Definitely recommended.

We met the owners of the Commodore while on a summer vacation, took a tour of the hotel and decided to stay for the Thanksgiving holiday. Our room was on the 3rd fl corner room, over the Intersection of traffic below. It was a noise we expected, so no problem. The staff was friendly and the lobby was a nice place to sit near the fireplace and read. The coffee shop next door was closed for the holiday, made for a quiet time. The room was warm/clean and the bed was very comfortable.

Room Tip: If you want quiet, small...very small room with clean modern shower/toilet down the hall. Book an in...
