“Don't leave Astoria without visiting the column!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2010

Maybe we lucked out, because we had a beautifully clear day. The column is on the highest point in Astoria and overlooks such a scenic area as to take your breath away. Even without going up, the park setting still is a wonderful place to picnic and enjoy the view. But go up! Don't forget your camera! I'm afraid of heights, yet I managed the 164 steps to the top. There is plenty of room on the stairs and landings to rest on. Once there, I was so enchanted by the view that I was glad I came. The main attraction for kids is to fly toy gliders (sold by the visitors center) from the tower. It was fun to watch them circle in the breeze and try to spot their landing.

“Worth the Climb!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2010

Drove to Astoria from Portland to get on the 101 to begin the trip down the coast and didn't really see much that interested us in the city. But thought the view from the column might be the one activity we would take in. The climb was manageable with landings every 20-30 steps. It was extremely windy when we were up top and the cold made it impossible to stay real long -- but what we saw was tremendous!

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2010

Job corps takes everyone to the column in their welcome tour its fun you can by little foam planes and throw them off the building when you get to the top...it was so much fun me and my friends loved looking up the hill towards it in downtown astoria^_^

“Nice views, what else is there to do around Astoria?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2009

The price is right, only $1 to climb up to the top, and the view is panoramic and nice. A slight strain on the ole' heart to get up there, but i saw plenty of seniors make the trek. Buy a couple wooden planes to throw off the top of the tower for a little added joy (apparently they encourage this because they sell the planes at the gift shop, plus i saw plenty of model plane wreckage at the base).
