I'd planned to camp at Ft Stevens but had a tag along friend who wanted to stay in a hotel. We ended up here. What a mistake. The room had cigarette smoke coming thru the adjoining door to the room (connected to another room). We could hear everything any of our neighbors said. The bathroom floor was sinking. At 5am, some people outside our room filled about 10 buckets of ice while talking loudly. The beds appeared to be 50 years old, one was sagging greatly. It would be better to sleep in your car than to pay for a sleepless night here. As well they do not have enough parking.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else. If you have to stay here try to find an end room away from the ice machine and people.

Astoria Or. is a nice place to travel through. The chain motels are pricey (arround $150.) which really isn,t worth it. The lamplighter is a dated hotel near the big bridge that has lot,s of traffic near by. At $90. it a little too much--but this town will make you pay. Then rooms were clean. The bath floor should have been replaced years ago. They need new pillows. If you are on a budget and you are near here check out many other dated motels in the area.We waited to long and need a room fast on a Fri. night. The couple at the desk were very friendly and helpfull.

This place is very outdated but staff are very friendly. The bed was comfortable and had hot water. It is a nice walk to town from this motel along the river walk. Passed on the continental breakfast as it was only offering pastries but the Pig and Pancake is on the same parking lot so this worked for us.

The front desk staff are quite pleasant, friendly, and helpful. The free basic breakfast is a nice touch. The room was clean, but VERY dated. Probably would have felt better about this property had I been paying a cheaper rate, but at over $90/night this did not seem like such a great bargain.

Room Tip: There are two levels so one may want to choose accordingly.

We recently stayed at the Lamplighter Motel in Astoria. When I called to make the reservation, I was immediately impressed with the friendliness of the lady who answered the phone. The motel is an older facility, but it is VERY clean and well-maintained. Our room was spotless. We had stayed at a chain motel with a good reputation a few nights before, but the Lamplighter was cleaner and the management much, much more helpful and friendly. The motel definitely harkens back to pre-interstate days and offers a rather pleasant nostalgia . It was spotless, the mattress was comfortable, the shower was hot, the staff was great and the rate was reasonable. What more could you want?
