“Beautiful park with a dirty beach”

The park was beautiful with interesting things to do and a variety of wild life. However! This is the dirtiest beach we have ever been to! Literally, all sorts of debris all over the beach. It was sad.

This is a must-see on your travels around Astoria and is in easy reach of Fort Clatsop on a day trip. Exceptional little (free) museum is packed with info and displays-really well done. Lots of battlements to walk on as well with views of the river.

Liked everything. Long walking trails, views of the sea and river, up close views of cannons and how they worked. Informative museum.

The main batteries and the little museum are ok, but my favorite is Battery Russell, where you can climb in and out of the spooky old barracks and imagine what it might have been like when this was an actual live military base (one of the few places outside of Pearl Harbor that the Japanese attacked during WWII).

You also can't go wrong with a trip to see the Peter Iredale shipwreck, and as it wears away a little more each year, the sooner the better.

What a treat for Astoria to have such a beautiful State Park! We spent the afternoon driving through the park and stopped at the shipwreck and watched whales just past the breakers! We also drove over to the river and just sat and watched ships going up the Columbia. A very beautiful park!
