Location was good... But a little tricky to get to, but not impossible.

Upon check in, the clerk cheerfully informed me that we were receiving an upgrade to a river view. We made our way to the room through the old, dated, brown and dreary hallway - and in anticipation of the river view, I opened the door to our non-smoking room and was met with the odor of an ashtray. Not good. We did see the river and mostly an industrial area - but that was fine. But the odor wasn't. But my two traveling companions were tired and apparently the stench didn't bother them - and since it was only for one night, we didn't ask for a room change..

It was a normal Best Western. The usual bedding and breakfast. Apparently the facility is undergoing renovation, but we didn't get one of the renovated rooms.

I hate to give a thumbs down because it might have been fine if I had a different room, so I'll give a thumbs up with qualification... Make sure to get a renovated room and be prepared to smell the room first.

For me, I'll try another place on my next trip to Astoria.

The room was clean, beddiing was nice. The view from the room was an ugly boat yard. Very noisy hotel. Hard to sleep
Front staff was very friendly and accommodatiog.
Kids enjoyed the pool
We paid $169 per room which is too high for value received

Our stay here was great. Got there around 10:45am as we stayed overnight in Kelso and thought we would have to wait to get a room but staff found us a room by 11am! Greeted by staff who went out of their way to comment on what to do and see while in Astoria.
Very clean room and 2 queen beds overlooking the bay.

Pros: 24 hour pool, hottub and sauna. (Great Idea!)
24 hour fitness center
3 clean plump pillows on each bed(Hey I like my pillows)
Friendly staff with a real interest in the town they live in
Great breakfast. Sausage, eggs, waffles, yougurt, fruit cups, assortment of cereal, toast, muffins, bagels

Cons: Nothing really.......only one coffee cup for the in room coffee maker, probably a slight mistake from the cleaning staff. Business center was closed as the computer crashed.

I booked a room "with a view" to the river. However, because of the angle of the hotel it took some neck straining to see the river. Instead, our room window looked out into a parking lot of trucks and a shipping yard. The room was average. It was clean. Lighting very dim which made reading difficult. I like the Best Western's breakfasts but the eating area was very small and there was no place for us to sit. We took our meals back to the hotel room and struggled to sit at the table. It was squeezed into a corner and there was little room for chairs to go around the table. It was also a very noisy hotel - I could hear banging from rooms upstairs and the plumbing screeched! The staff was friendly.

We booked a room for night while traveling with our three kids. The room was clean. It had a huge kitchen area, but no eating table. We were not expecting such a big kitchen- we didn't need that for our trip- however when we brought food back for dinner - it was hard to eat it! So I am not sure what people do that are staying there and are planning on the kitchen facilities there was so much room it can fit a table- but maybe it was missing! The bathroom is also larger and updated and it was clean- which I greatly appreciate. However the rooms and halls are so dark and dreary- dark brown color- the lighting is very dim. The bed was comfortable, but the room was kinda bleak- even for this type of hotel- the decor made you feel eerie!!! The view was kinda interesting to look out on the river even though the area is a little older- run down. Astoria was not what we thought- we were expecting a "charming water community", however we were only there for one day/night so maybe we missed the charm! The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was quite an experience-overly crowed and dark- I guess it does not help that the weather was gloomy outside also! There were no tables and people were all over the place- the food was unrecognizable! I assume there were things that were considered hot food but who knows what they were?! We were just looking for yogurt or fruit not even anything hot- but it was so unreal- I have never had that experience at any other Best Western or same type of hotel. The smell was so disgusting we just left- not sure if it was the people or food?!! Not sure if we will ever go into Astoria again, but I do think the hotel is good for a night or so because it has clean rooms even if halls are run down. If you can get past the decor and plan on eating out(don't pay extra for the kitchen even if you want more space for sleeping) than the Best Western is a place to crash!

We spent 3 nights at this hotel in Astoria & we were given a newly renovated room with a very comfortable bed on the top floor overlooking the harbour. We really enjoyed our stay, the view, the friendly pleasant staff, especially Lynda at the front desk & the fact that the hotel was consistently maintained, therefore regularly thoroughly cleaned. The lady in the breakfast room (I don't know her name) managed her domain with efficiency & conscientiousness that is rare in so many hotels these days. Their pool was a delight to swim in, & the general feeling about the entire hotel was one of caring happy staff who were interested in the comfort of their guests. Astoria is a fascinating town & certainly worth spending several days looking around, as the staff suggested to us. My only negative is that the hotel is a little difficult to access, but once there it more than makes up for this little challenge. Parking is a breeze right outside.

Our room (228-A) was clean, but it was very dark. Bathroom had "sunset" lighting. It was a remodeled room, yet dreary. There was debris on the stairs carpet and along the lobby check-in counter from one morning until the next morning.
