“Clean, spacious and great location”
Reviewed 13 February 2014

The best part of this place is that every room has a balcony over the water facing the marina. It's a small balcony but it makes you feel like it's a little nicer place than it really is and that worked for us.

Check in was quick and easy. The staff was friendly and the lobby looked clean and well maintained. For an additional $10 a night they allow pets which was great since we were driving from CA to WA with our dogs. The room was good sized, clean and the only real signs of wear and tear were over the shower head in the bathroom where the paint had peeled a little. It had a microwave, a coffee maker and a little mini fridge.

We left before breakfast but would totally stay at this Inn again.

The only negative is that they double charged me for the night I was there. I've contacted them for a refund on the second charge and so far no word back. If they do not get back to me I will update my review accordingly.

The pictures make this place look stunning - on pylons on the river. Sadly, the river here is a bit smelly and there is garbage swirling around. The hotel itself is pretty basic 70's motel - lumpy beds, paper thin walls and all - really didn't want to listen to the activities on the bed upstairs but had no choice. The advertised wifi doesn't work outside of the lobby. There are better options for the price. I wont be running back here.

We ultimately chose this motel for allowing pets (we have 3 dogs) & the price was right. The rooms are very small and brightly painted robin egg blue - "sweet"! One would not dare set foot on the wooden patio's as they are rotten and a person could potentially fall through to the next deck or ocean. Mix in all the noise from the adjoining ship yard with semi's pulling through offloading freight with a beeping forklift and you get the idea. Next time I won't be so cheap!

This was our second time staying at the riverwalk in the last 10 months! Husband and I love it! We go just to get away from town, work kids! There is many things to do in Astoria! This last visit we spent most of the time in the room just relaxing and enjoying the great view! Yes the hotel is old which adds to the charm as well as great rates. The staff is always friendly. The rooms are spacious and clean. The breakfast is enough to start the day as there are many other wonderful places around town to enjoy a more intimate lunch or dinner. The portway pub is right next door which is nice for drinks and no driving. I will be returning next month to the riverwalk for one night with my 14 year old and her friends for her birthday. we plan on riding the bicycles on the boardwalk and hitting the museums, then off to seaside!

Room Tip: The hotel is spread out, so if you prefer to be closer to the lobby where the breakfast is served as...

I'm aware of some of the other reviews but for us it was simply hard to find fault with this place!

Our room - a king size bed on the second floor in the main building - was lovely, in all respects. Clean, spacious and very comfortable with wonderful, north facing, view over the adjacent marina of the magnificent Columbia River and the nearby Astoria Bridge. Located just feet from the Astoria Riverfront Trolley and walking/jogging path along the river, with reasonably easy access to downtown Astoria.

The front desk staff were efficient, friendly and accommodating. In spite of the proximity to the nearby highway, the room was very quiet and peaceful. Excellent, fast wifi in the room. Microwave and minifridge, nice flat screen TV and DVD player (multi-format, with a USB port on the front - nice touch for your bittorent downloads). Great fleet of both street and beach cruiser bicycles available free of charge for guests and a complimentary pass for two to three great Astoria attractions (Flavel House Museum, The Oregon Film Museum (Goonies fans headquarters!) and the Heritage Maritime Museum) included.

With our Groupon deal, the value was fantastic, though even at standard off-season rates this is a great deal.

Room Tip: The second floor king rooms apparently have been recently updated. Check with the desk staff for sp...

We bought a Groupon and stayed there about a month ago. The woman at the front desk processed and redeemed our Groupon when we arrived. However, when I looked at my Visa statement I discovered they also charged us the full price for the room in ADDITION to the Groupon. We've emailed and called 3 times and each time have been promised that they will be refunding the charge. However that has yet to happen. Now I have to call the credit card company to refute the charges. Incredibly shady and a frustrating waste of time.

If you want a nice view of the marina and the bridge headed north, any room in this hotel will do. If you're just looking for any place in Astoria to sleep, choose something closer to downtown and in better condition. Perhaps once upon a time this was a lovely spot to spend the night, but it's in need of some love: no clear sign for how to get there from the main road, view from front looks dismal (not a big deal to me, but was a bit startling when driving up), and more importantly: the rooms were a bit dingy, musty- like the Pacific NW climate had taken grip. Definitely do not stay there if you want to feel like your room is pristine. For my wife and I it was fine- the room was clean and all, and it served our purposes, plus it was dog friendly which we needed. They seem to be in the process of upgrading- the lobby was quite nice and some upgrades were present in the rooms, so maybe down the line this will be a nice hotel again. For now it's just fair- fine to stay there but nothing special...

Room Tip: All rooms have views of the marina, so any is fine. Perhaps opt for one on the second floor to get...
