We stayed at the Hotel Elliott in October and had a fantastic experience. They've done a nice job of restoring the hotel without creating the wedding cake-Victorian theme in the rooms. We had a second story streetside room that was small but very nicely furnished with a great urban view for around $100/night. The bed was great. I have a pet peeve about crappy soaps and shampoos at hotels and the Elliott met my metrosexual standards. The soap was a nice Avea bar. The bathroom was very clean and had heated floors.
With your stay you get a complimentary glass of wine at the bar in the basement, which is run by a young guy who is very enthusiastic and really knows his stuff. If you like wine at all, eschew the complimentary glass of pedestrian house wine and ask for his recommendation. We had a couple great glasses of wine, but being a lightweight those two plus the freebie put me three sheets to the wind. The owner is also a spirits enthusiast if you like your liquor distilled.
If you're a light sleeper and arriving on a Friday night, I'd recommend against a streetside room. The farmer's market is right in front of the hotel and it's a bit noisy while they set up, which is quite early.
If you're there in nice weather, the rooftop deck is great.More
