By all accounts, Captain Flavel (pronounced Flah-vehl) was pretty much the godfather of Astoria in its early days. The small on-site museum occupies what was once the carriage house, and touring the main house (self-guided) really gives some perspective on how the rich and famous of that era lived. What's even more amazing is that this location almost became a parking lot decades ago! Thankfully it was saved and preserved by a group of concerned citizens. Definitely worth stopping by and checking out this one if you're in town.
