“Another great Hampton Inn”
Reviewed 12 June 2014 via mobile

This was a great stay. The room was super clean and nicely decorated as I've come to expect from the Hampton Inn. It's a beautiful area in a beautiful location. The breakfast includes your typical continental breakfast plus eggs and sausage. Coffee wasn't very good so plan for that if you need a cup of coffee. A great stay!

This hotel is a gem-nice clean rooms, fantastic location and really friendly staff. I visit Astoria several times a year-it is my favorite north Oregon coastal city and a wonderful place to stay. Get a river view room-some have balconies. The sea lions are noisy, but part of the charm and once you shut the door you don't hear them. The ships are a joy to watch. The hotel sits right off the Trolley tracks and the river front walk. The breakfast is average hotel fare but more than coffee and danish-you won't starve!

Having the river view room made our stay more enjoyable. This Hampton is very clean comfortable and well-maintained. We're glad that the sound-proofing was very good. The seemingly constant barking of the seals or sealions on the river pier could give light sleeper a problem.

The Hotel was lovely and near the river and we thought the price was reasonable. The room was clean and quiet and the beds were comfy. We were a bit put off by the coffee pot, ice bucket and goodies all on a shelf in the bathroom next to the toilet (at toilet level- really!). Breakfast was plentiful and the seating had river views. Our biggest concern was the pool area. the noise level was soooo loud we couldn't hear ourselves think- children and adults were screaming and running and cannon balling into the shallow pool- maybe because they were drinking a little beer apparently allowed in the pool area. The hot tub was nice but same sound level and we all decided to get out when a young woman escorted her little boy to the tub and allowed him to pee in it. Overall, we didn't let it spoil our visit!!

Dear Glenda,
Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are happy to hear that your room was clean, quiet, the beds were comfortable, and that the breakfast was plentiful with the direct river view. I am sorry to hear your disappointment regarding the coffee pot and the pool area, I have passed on your concern and I did go and have a look for myself and found that there is a divider in between the sink area (where the coffee maker is) and the bathroom. This area is a historic destination and we have tons families from all around the world who visit. I am sorry the indoor pool area was too loud for you. We don’t allow any alcohol drinking in the pool area and wish we could have been notified and would have done something about it. I am happy to know that you didn’t let anything spoil your visit. Thank you very much for choosing to stay with us her at the Hampton Inn & Suites Astoria.

Kind Regards,
Colleen Casper

The hotel was great. The breakfast was good. We opted for a river view with a balcony. So when we opened the balcony door, we could really hear the sea lions not too far away. Great view watching the anchored freighters turn between tides. From 12-5 the tourist trolly comes by. Fun to watch. If you want real quiet, probably want a non-river side room.

I booked the hotel for a trip to Astoria. We were going to see a concert at the Liberty Theater (amazing historic theater!) and thought it would be nice to be along the river and have a view. The hotel is very nice and the rooms are nice BUT when we walked into our room we were very surprised to see that the door to the balcony had black adhesive tint on it that blocked the view completely. This left a small window as our only view to the outside. The balcony was decent size but had no chairs. We were very disappointed and when I called the front desk to inquire why it was so, I was told it was a bad idea from management and would be fixed in the near future. That didn't do much for my stay or the extra we spent on the room. I can appreciate that bad decisions are made or that things don't turn out the way it was expected they would. The front desk said that people had complained about the light in the morning and that is why the tint was put on. Honestly? A curtain over the door would have done just as much for the door as it did over the window. The thing that also bugged me a lot was the poor training of the very nice ladies at the front desk both that night and in the morning. I asked one if all the rooms had black out, thinking we might change rooms, she said "I don't know, we don't get to see the rooms". Really? We accepted the foolishness and enjoyed our evening in Astoria. The next morning at check out, I reiterated my disappointment at the view and asked why there were not chairs on the balcony. She said "Oh, you just needed to ask and we would bring them up" Really? I asked her why there were no signs that said you could ask for chairs and she said that it was just a shame that I hadn't thought to ask. What a weird hotel. The place is nice enough. Breakfast is well supplied although you could not find a reasonably healthy thing to eat in the whole buffet if you tried. I won't go back. There are too many other choices in Astoria and some really great historic hotels downtown near nice restaurants that I will look into next time.

Room Tip: As for a room without tint on the windows and ask for chairs for the balcony! The river walk is lov...

We spent two nights at the Hampton Inn in Astoria and enjoyed the comfort of the new facility as well as the closeness to Seaside. We had food in town and were excited to find excellent quality at the Bridgewater Bistro and small cafes. In addition, we visited the maritime museum and Flavel House.
