“Wonderful hotel in a beautiful town”
Reviewed 27 July 2011

We stayed here one night en route to Olympic National Park. We had connecting rooms -one a King and the other with two doubles. The rooms are just as depicted on the website, are very large, and very nicely furnished and decorated. There was a gas fireplace for heat. Both rooms had balconies facing the Columbia River, and the views were beautiful. The hotel is actually built on a pier, and so the hotel sits on the water. I think that all the rooms face the water. We were on the second floor and heard no noise from above or below us (I hope the same is true for the people above and below the room my kids were in). Breakfast was typical free continental fare, although the pastries seemed better than what we are used to. We rode the hotel's vintage cadillac to and from dinner one night, and that was fun. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The room rate was very high ($329) which is the highest we paid for any room on our trip, but I guess they can get it in summer, and we would stay again despite the cost.

This is just a lovely place to stay. While a bit more expensive than your average nicer hotel it is well worth it. All rooms have a view of the water and are very nice. If so inclined you can open the shutters in the bath and have a soak in the tub while watching the boats. The beds are comfortable and we had a roll away which was an actual bed, not a folded up cot with a crummy mattress. Rooms have fireplaces and window seats with binoculars for boat watching. In the evening there is wine and cheese and the breakfast was very good and fresh.

We have stayed in some very expensive hotels which we thought were worth it - this isn't one of them . A great location and a nicely presented hotel but it has no dining facilities, no bar and provides only continental breakfast. They do have a wine tasting in the early evening .The bistro close by is therefore a major bonus - great food, and we wish it had provided breakfast too . We had heard wonderful things about the staff here too- actually we find everyone in Oregon nice and friendly so the service here was not a standout for us either and average for the area.

A beautiful start to our new life together. Was served a complimentary glass of wine upon checkin. The agent then assisted us to our rooms and made sure the room was to our liking. How could it not be? IT WAS GORGEOUS! Our balcony looked right out to the bridge. Loved the way the bath tub had windows out to the room and looking over the pier. We drank wine on the pier watching the boats come in. Couldn't have been more perfect. We sat next to the grand windows in the lobby for a light breakfast the following morning. So romantic! I can't wait to go back!

Unusual hotel - and we loved it. The view was so wonderful that we lounged in the room right up to the checkout time. There were clearly frequent visitors lounging in the lobby. Very clean and friendly. No food service but no problem - restaurants are a short walk. Worth it.

We have stayed at the Cannery Pier Hotel on a couple of occasions (usually as we are passing through Astoria). What makes the Cannery stand out is just how relaxing it is. You walk into a bright lobby that is full of natural light and large windows over looking the Columbia. It is a perfect spot to relax, read a book and enjoy their complimentary wine hour. The rooms are large with a deep tub that is ideal for soaking in. The fact that the rooms are right over the water makes the ambiance even better. I love sitting on the window seats with the gas fireplace on staring out onto the water while the boats slowly make their way under the bridge. Another fun perk of The Cannery are the classic cars with a driver who will take you to downtown for dinner and pick you up at your requested time. It's always a pleasure staying at the Cannery Pier Hotel.
