My husband and I recently stayed at this hotel on a trip with friends. It was fabulous. Our room was lovely. A fireplace, a window seat complete with a Pendleton throw, the bathroom with a claw foot tub and shutters that one could open while soaking to enjoy the view. And what a view! The mouth of the Columbia River with a front row seat to the passing ships. Wonderful! The staff went out of their way to be accommodating and everything was excellent. There is not a restaurant but they do offer a nice continental breakfast and complimentary wine and cheese in the evening. I would highly recommend this hotel and am looking forward to another visit there soon.

Room Tip: Higher floor has a spectacular view of the river.

The Cannery Pier Hotel is one of the nicest, most comfortable hotels I have ever visited. The STAFF was extremely nice and helpful. I read in one of these reviews that the staff is expected to be warm and helpful but as we all know, that is not always the case in most hotels. This staff was the tops. More than one staff membered offered to get me some me milk with the freshly baked cookies set out in the lobby in the evenings.

Continental breakfast? Yes, usually no big deal but the pastries that they had available were melt in your mouth delicious! There also had an evening social gathering with wine and cheese and tasty salmon open faced sandwiches. The staff kept refilling the wine glasses for us. The lobby area had cushy chairs and warm fireplaces and was a perfect place to sit and mingle after a day of work.

There were vintage clawfoot tubs in the rooms and separate showers both with a wonderful outdoor view! Thick and fluffy terry cloth robes and a basket of towels. Speaking of the view, I will post a picture of the view from my window and balcony.

The bed was comfy and there was an electric fire place in the room. There is also a comfy window seat with a pair of binoculors in the window sill for your entertainment. There is a fridge and microwave in the room, and cable TV (which I never watched - who had time? So much to watch outside the window)..but I did take time to watch a program showing the building of the Cannery Pier Hotel from scratch - not remodeled from an old cannery, which I found fascinating. Be sure to see it.

I had a very pleasant stay and hated to leave! :( but I will be back!)

Room Tip: Any room is probably a great room. I was ont he second floor.

Our first experience at the Cannery Pier hotel was wonderful. You feel like you are on the water - almost like being on a cruise ship. The lobby was lovely with at least 6 different comfy seating areas, some near a cozy fireplace. We loved this about the hotel. Enjoyed the wine hour as did many of the patrons we saw. Cookies at 8 and a nice continental breakfast.

Our room was beautiful and quite large. Fireplace. Big soaking tub which we used together. Pleat view, especially when a huge ship went by which happened a lot. It was amazing!

Staff friendly and helpful. Driver to take you and pick you up from any of the local restaurants. Hit tub and sauna. No pool which is fine with us. Not a kid place.

We can't ain't to go back!

If you go: ask about the short drive and walk to the point where you can see the ships actually crossing the bar! Very cool

1. The view is sublime. Built on a pier at the mouth of the Columbia River, you are pretty much seeing what Lewis and Clark saw.

2. The architecture is unique -- spacious yet intimate, designed to promote tranquility. There is almost nowhere in the entire facility that you are without a remarkable view. Various configurations offer private or public spaces as your mood requires.

3. Spacious and interestingly shaped rooms with fireplaces, window seats (with Pendleton blankets), balconies, couch, desk, table and chairs.

4. Enormous bathroom. Both clawfoot tub and shower allow you to see the view through in-room window. Heated stone floor.

5. Fluffy white towels, robes, luxury "products", coffee maker with coffee and tea.

6. Beautifully decorated: Upscale, calming, tasteful colors and furnishings throughout guest rooms and public spaces.

7. Lots of gracious treats: Wine, cheese and finger sandwiches in the late afternoon, coffee and tea in the lobby and in room, cookies and milk in the evening, chocolates on you bed table at bedtime. Best Continental breakfast ever with bakery pastries, deluxe fresh fruit compote, waffles hard-boiled eggs, plus all the "health" offerings as well -- yogurt, cereal selection, granola bars, whole fruit, etc. From 8-10 a.m. an actual barista pulls $2 espresso drinks.

8. Hot tub in lovely spa-like space with view on several sides and windows that open to the cool air. See all the way to the Astoria Column. Huge fluffy towels, sauna, Spa services available.

9. Right on the River front paved trail. Walk or wheel (on complimentary bikes) to anywhere or let yourself be chauffeured in the hotel's vintage car.

10. Guest means guest. Much more than just smiles, the staff will help you "find" exactly the breakfast pastries you were craving. They go out of their way to offer wine refills in the evening or to bring around glasses in the first place. Someone makes sure you know about the cookies if you pass through the lobby in the evening and wants you to have milk, if you desire. If you find papaya in the fruit compote, someone has made sure it's really ripe and good. Graciousness is palpable and exceeds mere courtesy. They make you feel like the parents of the bride.

Room Tip: Suites have a separate bedroom and are located on the corners, so have windows on two sides. Frankl...

Honeymooning across the western US, we found this hotel by chance! We were greeted by Sally, who was so warm and welcoming. We really liked that we could view a suite before deciding to stay. There was a wine & cheese reception, a vintage car & chauffeur to take us around the city if we wanted, and when Sally discovered it was our honeymoon, there was champagne waiting in our suite.

All rooms open onto the Columbia River, and we spent hours watching the ships come and go. A TV program tells the story of building the hotel, and the art around the halls gives the history of the cannery.

The suite itself was comfortable and beautiful. Bathtubs are a must for my hubby, and the claw foot soaker was absolute heaven!

For price, service, location and pure enjoyment, make a point of staying at the Cannery Pier Hotel!

Room Tip: Stay on the ground floor. You can almost reach out and touch the water, and the sound of the water i...

We just spent another wonderful get-away at the Cannery Pier for New Year's Eve and Day. The staff and hotel went out of their way to provide excellent service and additional amenities for the holiday, including in-room champagne, extra treats in the lobby and a midnight toast. The boats nearby blew their horns at midnight. Even with the folk band playing music in the lobby, we didn't hear anything in our 3rd floor suite. This is my 5th visit to the hotel and I've stayed on the 2nd and 3rd floors and have never had a problem with noise. On New Year's Day my husband and I had a couple's massage that we both thought were the best massages we've ever had and we are thankful that the therapists worked on the holiday. This is our favorite spot for a few days away from Portland. Yes, it can be pricey, but we utilize all of the wonderful amenities, including vintage car rides from Spencer to and from dinner. This was our best New Year's Holiday and an amazingly wonderful way to start off 2014.

Yes, the location and the view are exciting, but still the place is overrated and overpriced. The walls seem to be very thin, because I heard every word that was spoken next door. The service, yes they are friendly, but that is expected and nothing I would rate as excellent. I was also surprised to see that there is no air conditioner, which wasn't too much of a problem this time, but I will not stay there in summer.

Room Tip: All rooms have a wonderful view.
