“Book the Spa well in Advance”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2014

Beautiful hotel, great place to stay, loved the nice touches - especially the doggie treats, toy, bed, and food dishes for my pooch. The complimentary classic car ride was great. The other reviews on here do a great job describing this hotel so I don't feel the need to elaborate on that. My only complaint is that the spa was completely booked up before we even arrived. I'm not sure how that can be fixed as they can't just magically make it bigger. Be advised to book the spa well in advance of your stay if you intend to use that service.

This is a beautiful hotel. The interior of the hotel is tastefully decorated, neat and spotlessly clean. Designed by an architect; expect no less. All the modern convenience are available making it home away from home. Located right beside the river, the river view is spectacular. Small touches such as providing a chauffeur in a vintage car to take you to your dinner restaurant is most endearing. Love this place thoroughly.

My wife, 2 kids and I, stayed in the Pilot House which is the best suite in the hotel from Tuesday, April 15 through Thursday, April 17,2014. The cost of the room was $550 + $49.50 state tax + $5.50 local tax per night. A total of $605 per night. The Pilot House is room 501. It is the only room on the 5th floor. You are forced to use the stairs from the 4th floor to the 5th floor where the Pilot House is. So if you have lots of luggage, you will be carrying it up some stairs to the room. The continental breakfast is from 6-10am and the wine/cheese affair is from 5-6pm. For a couple, the breakfast and wine/cheese session are good, but not sufficient for families. Check in is at 4pm, however the room was ready at noon when we arrived. On the hotel’s website, the room pictures show hardwood floors and a telescope. I can tell you most of the floor is now carpet except for the living room and there is no telescope, only binoculars. The views of the Astoria-Megler bridge are great and it was neat to watch the large ships go by underneath the bridge. The master bathroom has a separate jetted tub and shower. The guest bathroom has a shower only, so surprise, the kids wanted to use the jetted tub in the master bath just like Mom and Dad. There are two separate balconies. One balcony is from the master bedroom facing West and the other balcony is from the living room facing North. The balconies are extremely small and there are no chairs or tables on the balconies. I couldn’t even set up my tripod on the balconies to take pictures. I had to hand hold my DSLR camera for my bridge/river shots. Not the end of the world, but I still got my shots. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator, microwave, plates, utensils, but no dishwasher. The refrigerator had cans of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sprite and were complimentary. Two bottles of wine were already in the room complimentary, but I think only one bottle was supposed to be there initially. Three Samsung televisions with DirecTV are in the suite. The Wi-Fi is included, but gets slow in the evening when every guest is using their devices to cripple the bandwidth. The fireplace pilot light came on, but we couldn’t get the fireplace to light up the way we wanted. We didn’t report this to maintenance because it wasn’t a huge deal for us. The room was clean all the way around. We received a USA Today newspaper in the mornings outside the door. The suite feels like living in a 2 room apartment in a high rise building of a large city. Would I pay $605 a night, including all taxes, again for this room? Well, probably more life $450 a night, but that’s just me. I think the hotel is charging its rates based strictly on the views which are great, but there is a price breaking point. Granted there are a lot of windows in the suite yielding a wide range of views. I’ve tried to post some pictures along with this review.

The friendly welcoming staff was a great start to a wonderful getaway at this luxurious boutique property. As we entered, a tall charming gent was serving wine while guests mingled & enjoyed artisan cheeses & delicious smoked salmon bites. The evening's reception was in full swing but we couldn't wait to check out our 3rd fl room. Our brilliant bathroom was sparkling clean & boasted a claw foot tub, stall shower & ample light & counter space. Wooden shutters opened to our massive king bed, seating area & gas fireplace. The view from our balcony was mesmerizing. Giant ships lazily passed by while sea lions frolicked below. The great location allowed for walks along the river, enjoying delicious food & cocktails at nearby restaurants & fun bike rides utilizing the hotel's vintage fleet. We can not wait to come back!

My wife surprised me with a trip to Astoria and a stay at a new location for us. What an absolute delight. The hotel is built on a pier out in the river and is amazing. The hotel is very well appointed and every detail, of a quality establishment, has been looked at. Wine and cheese in the lobby at 5 every day, a great free breakfast, beautiful view from the balcony with river traffic moving by all day long. We had a great two night stay. I will be back and I will let all my friends know about this gem.

Room Tip: River view!

we hadn't stayed here before, but wanted to check it out, as our other b/b was sold. this was a special occasion for birthday and anniversary. we stayed in a suite, as all the regular rooms were booked. room 411 was superb. the view was amazing, and the accomodations excellent. it's expensive, but all the extras make it special. the sauna and jacuzzi was relaxing too. we didn't have time to bike, as we bike all the time in portland. we didn't use the packard or chevy, but saw folks going for a drive. the construction is beautiful and the breakfast very delicious. free oregonian newspaper on sunday too. only suggestion is to have a separate light in the bathroom without a fan. plus a few more hooks to hang towels, so we can reuse. we didn't have or need housekeeping,(ruth), but saw her in the hall, and she was very friendly. plus, since it was a special occasion, they gave us a free bottle of brut cuvee champagne with glasses on a tray and a card. while making the resv, they ask if there is a special occasion. excellent touch. the staff at the desk were so friendly and informative. very genuine too. the ships easing by made for entertaining gazing.

Room Tip: suite 411 offers superb view and many windows

Upon entering, the lobby feels more like a home than a hotel- A very nicely appointed home that is. Staff was very professional and courteous without making the place feel like a B&B.

Nice sized rooms with balconies, fireplace, large tub, separate shower, refrigerator, and wet bar area (no stocked mini fridge). Rooms are nicely appointed and the views are stellar. This is the type of room you want to spend time in and relax in good weather or bad. A perfect location to pause and take a day or two off while visiting the usual coastal tourist traps.

Breakfast is continental and affords you many little corners to sit down and watch the river life roll by. With floor to ceiling windows two stories high, you feel like your sitting right on the dock as massive ships pass by a few hundred feet away.
