I had a wonderful experience at this hotel. I was there over the Christmas holiday (eve and day) and it could not have been better. I live in Portland and wanted to "get away" without driving too far. I also wanted to be close to or on the water. The room and common areas were very clean and featured a view of the water. Even though it was Christmas, the hotel hosted a lovely "happy hour" each night with music, cheese, salmon and generous selections/portions of local wines. The staff was very down to earth and kind. The restaurant down the pier was wonderful. It was a great place to relax, have a drink and look at the scenery and/or to have a delicious dinner.

I would make this trip again in a heartbeat.

We stayed here a couple of years ago and this time we brought my parents, none of us were disappointed. The hotel is positioned on a jetty in the Columbia River and upon check in you are given a list of the ship movements for the day. The rooms are large and all face on the river with views of the Meglar Bridge and Washington State. We were treat to typical Oregon weather on the afternoon of our arrival Washington kept disappearing behind rain and then lit up in bright sunshine. The following morning there wasn’t a cloud to be seem and the view was excellent. The hotel is position approximately a mile from downtown however, the walk is along the coast line and flat. The hotel also has complimentary vintage cars that they use to shuttle you around town. One touch that I’ve not came across before is that the reception have copies of all the restaurants in the town, which is great as it gives you an idea where to aim for while wandering around. The continental breakfast is great with a good selection which is constantly being replenished.

Room Tip: All rooms face the River

This is a charming hotel with a spectacular setting, literally on the Columbia River, in the shadow of the mighty Astoria-Megler bridge. The rooms are huge (with built-in log-effect fires for cosy winter stays). From the comfort of your balcony you can watch the constant river traffic, the busy cormorants and, if you're lucky, see evidence of a passing whale. There's no restaurant but an excellent eatery is just a short step away, and each evening the hotel hosts a very civilised wine reception between 5 and 6. We so enjoyed our stay a year ago that we made a special (180 mile!) detour from our Olympic Peninsula itinerary this year just for the pleasure of one night at the Cannery Pier and a chance to revisit relaxing Astoria - and it was worth it!

Room Tip: All rooms have great views but you'll have to decide whether you prefer to be close to the water...

My wife and I stayed here overnight. Our room was on the top floor and had spectacular views of the river and the passing ships/boats. The room was spacious and very clean. The bathroom was huge, with a claw-foot tub, as well as a nice size glass-enclosed shower. Breakfast was good, with several selections and the area was clean and tidy. Just the location of this hotel is enough to make it an enjoyable stay, but the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff make it all that much better.

Room Tip: All rooms have wonderful views of the river, so you can't go wrong.

Our stay at The Cannery Pier Hotel was fabulous. Every room has an amazing view of the river and a small balcony. The rooms are very large and very nicely furnished and include a fireplace. They are almost like suites rather than just a room. The bathrooms are huge with a soaking tub and shower and a window through the room itself to the river view. The hotel also provides a "heavy" continental breakfast, as well as a complimentary wine and lox in the afternoon. We enjoyed being driven to town in the hotel's beautifully restored old Studebaker. I would definitely recommend and return to this hotel.

4th stop on our San Francisco to Seattle road trip. Yet again thank you Trip Advisor. We had a good feel about this hotel as we approached Astoria and were not disappointed. What a wonderful setting the pier jutting out into the Columbia river. As we walked into the hotel it was spectacular; light, airy and with amazing architecture and design. The staff were welcoming and helpful throughout our 2 night stay (we wish we could stay longer). Our room was on the third floor and was excellent, with a fireplace, a wonderful bathroom with claw feet - and it is true you can sit in the bath and watch the ships go past!! The balcony opened up our room to the most incredible views of the river and was a pleasant place to relax. The hotel had vintage cars for which you could reserve a time slot for getting into town for dinner which was an added feature and great fun. There was a drinks and smoked salmon reception each evening which was very sociable. Breakfast was a continental buffet in the lobby area which was very relaxed, the pastries are highly recommended. There is no restaurant but a wide choice is available in Astoria itself and the reception staff most helpful with their recommendations. We had an excellent dinner at the Bridgewater Bistro, a very short walk across the waterfront and ate at the Silver Salmon Grill on the Monday evening. Walking along the waterfront into town from the hotel was most enjoyable and also gave good views of this remarkable hotel. A visit to Captain Flavel's house is both interesting and informative. We can thoroughly recommend the Cannery Pier Hotel and Astoria.

Good sized room with unobstructed views of the river (even from the bath and shower). The fireplace would be lovely in cooler weather. Make sure you book a ride in the old-timey car; worth it alone for the comedy show put on by the driver and his "assistant". Very fun - even if the ride is less than ten minutes. Pleasant common areas with more views. Salmon snacks and wine, as well as a breakfast buffet, add to the experience. But don't stay in your room, be sure to get out and explore!

Room Tip: Seems that all rooms are designed to have a good view of the river.
