“A wonderful hotel - highly recommended”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

I'm sad not to be able to give this hotel 5 stars. Let me tell you why it lost one point. My wife and I are touring Oregon on our honeymoon trip and pre-booked our hotels. Arriving at Cannery Pier with our Expedia confirmation in hand, we found that the hotel had not received the booking from Expedia. The hotel was most apologetic and did address the issue right away, found a room and even provided a bottle of sparkling cider as it was our honeymoon on last minute notice. The lost booking is why a star was lost. Now let me tell you what's great about this place.

1) A wonderful and helpful staff all around.
2) Beautiful rooms in the most amazing of settings. Every room has a river view from atop the pier. I cannot say enough about the setting, it is just wonderful.
3) A free chauffer service that will take you anywhere in town in one of two beautifully maintained classic cars: a 1937 Studebaker and a 1950s era Chevy. The driver we had was the most friendly person we'd met on our honeymoon tour and made our trip truly memorable.
4) Nice touches: a beautiful bathroom with a huge 4-legged tub; binoculars to watch the river traffic; a beautiful window seat where to rest while enjoying the vista; and a cozy wool throw to keep warm while watching the river traffic.
5) Location: while not downtown the chauffeur service gets you there quickly. It is, however, on the river walk -- a beautiful riverfront trail that you can walk into downtown if you wish.
6) Wine and cheese with local wines was complimentary in the early evening
7) A beautiful lobby and patio to enjoy coffee in the morning.
8) Good beds and a good sleep.

I wish I could give this hotel 5 stars as it deserves it, but they need to solve their technical problems. Had the hotel been fully booked we would have lost out on a most memorable part of our honeymoon.

This was one of the nicest rooms i have stayed in for the price.

Pros: Large room, right on the water so when you open the window you can hear the splashing of the waves, beautiful view, fire place in the room, claw foot bath tub, separate shower, happy hour with free whine, cheese, crackers, and tuna h'orderves. There are complimentary bikes to use on a first come first serve basis. Complimentary classic car shuttle service to anywhere in town. The hotel is clean and lovely. The bathroom has robes to use.

Cons: None really. I had a wonderful time here.

Room Tip: We stayed on the bottom floor in room 113 I believe.

I had a wonderful experience at this hotel. I was there over the Christmas holiday (eve and day) and it could not have been better. I live in Portland and wanted to "get away" without driving too far. I also wanted to be close to or on the water. The room and common areas were very clean and featured a view of the water. Even though it was Christmas, the hotel hosted a lovely "happy hour" each night with music, cheese, salmon and generous selections/portions of local wines. The staff was very down to earth and kind. The restaurant down the pier was wonderful. It was a great place to relax, have a drink and look at the scenery and/or to have a delicious dinner.

I would make this trip again in a heartbeat.

We stayed here a couple of years ago and this time we brought my parents, none of us were disappointed. The hotel is positioned on a jetty in the Columbia River and upon check in you are given a list of the ship movements for the day. The rooms are large and all face on the river with views of the Meglar Bridge and Washington State. We were treat to typical Oregon weather on the afternoon of our arrival Washington kept disappearing behind rain and then lit up in bright sunshine. The following morning there wasn’t a cloud to be seem and the view was excellent. The hotel is position approximately a mile from downtown however, the walk is along the coast line and flat. The hotel also has complimentary vintage cars that they use to shuttle you around town. One touch that I’ve not came across before is that the reception have copies of all the restaurants in the town, which is great as it gives you an idea where to aim for while wandering around. The continental breakfast is great with a good selection which is constantly being replenished.

Room Tip: All rooms face the River

This is a charming hotel with a spectacular setting, literally on the Columbia River, in the shadow of the mighty Astoria-Megler bridge. The rooms are huge (with built-in log-effect fires for cosy winter stays). From the comfort of your balcony you can watch the constant river traffic, the busy cormorants and, if you're lucky, see evidence of a passing whale. There's no restaurant but an excellent eatery is just a short step away, and each evening the hotel hosts a very civilised wine reception between 5 and 6. We so enjoyed our stay a year ago that we made a special (180 mile!) detour from our Olympic Peninsula itinerary this year just for the pleasure of one night at the Cannery Pier and a chance to revisit relaxing Astoria - and it was worth it!

Room Tip: All rooms have great views but you'll have to decide whether you prefer to be close to the water...

My wife and I stayed here overnight. Our room was on the top floor and had spectacular views of the river and the passing ships/boats. The room was spacious and very clean. The bathroom was huge, with a claw-foot tub, as well as a nice size glass-enclosed shower. Breakfast was good, with several selections and the area was clean and tidy. Just the location of this hotel is enough to make it an enjoyable stay, but the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff make it all that much better.

Room Tip: All rooms have wonderful views of the river, so you can't go wrong.

Our stay at The Cannery Pier Hotel was fabulous. Every room has an amazing view of the river and a small balcony. The rooms are very large and very nicely furnished and include a fireplace. They are almost like suites rather than just a room. The bathrooms are huge with a soaking tub and shower and a window through the room itself to the river view. The hotel also provides a "heavy" continental breakfast, as well as a complimentary wine and lox in the afternoon. We enjoyed being driven to town in the hotel's beautifully restored old Studebaker. I would definitely recommend and return to this hotel.
