Food was good and the price OK too. The menu choices a more that I would expect at such a facility. The grilled cheese sandwich is great.

For venue fare, it was above average. I had the best bought Frito Chili Pie ever! Their menu was not just the standard hamburgers, hot dogs, or ham sandwiches. Coffee was good and the staff very friendly.

But they have hot cocoa when you come in from a chilly night - watch out, it's hot! Candy bars like Mars and Galaxy give a giggle, and if you're short on time, skip eating in Fort Davis and just head up to the Cafe before your Star Party.

Typical cafe at a public attraction. A good alternative for grabbing lunch or a snack. Not a dining place.

This is a tiny little café manned by just two people before and during the Star Parties. It is located in the visitor's center at the McDonald Observatory. The Observatory location is remote from any towns and this is the only place to get any food for miles around.

We were very happy to get a simple grilled cheese sandwich and some hot drinks before the evening program started. They also had chili and sandwiches and chips. It was comforting to know that if we got just too cold outside looking at the stars that the Star Date Café was there waiting for us!

Not fancy, but it works very well!
