Fort Davis Drug Store and Hotel

We are here right now. When I checked in, I was so disappointed. The bathroom is a nightmare of outdated, small fixtures. The small area surrounding the sink seems made of plywood. Some of the furniture is thrift store quality. This is not "cowboy charm.". The stairs and floors are rickety. No offer of help to carry luggage. Not really a hotel, just rooms with no amenities and no service at all. Here, you are on your own, with very little to work with.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Fort Davis and always wanted to eat at the Drug Store but all the parking spots were taken whenever we drove past. On our next to last day we finally found a place to park and soon became aware of why the place is so popular. It was like taking a step back in time to the good 'ol days as we walked in and inhaled the ambience. From the soda fountain to the general store, everything brought back memories of America when life was so much simpler and didn't have the hustle and bustle that we have today. If you're looking good food, excellent service and chocolate malts that are out of this world then don't miss eating at the Drug Store. If you're looking for that elusive hamburger that tastes like the good old days, you've come to the right place. Bring an appetite because they'll load up your plate with the best of everything and treat you like family without emptying your wallet. Make time to visit the Fort Davis Drugstore, you will be glad that you did!

The food was wonderful and the waitresses were great. We wish we could have stayed in the hotel itself but we did find a room down the street.
Ft Davis has so very much to offer. You could probably spend several days there taking in all the sights.

Room Tip: Book one early enough to get a room. We have no idea how the rooms looked...

We were promptly greeted by a courteous and smiling hostess. The rooms were quiet, comfortable, and well-equipped. Each room was uniquely and tastefully decorated. The general store / restaurant was charming; both the food and service were excellent. We definitely recommend this hotel if you're traveling through Fort Davis and consider visiting the town as part of a trip to Big Bend National Park.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Texas Star room - I loved the star quilt shams and hardwood floors. There were ple...

We stayed here while viewing real estate in the area and weren't expecting anything fantastic from a hotel, but we got more than we bargained for. This hotel is so charming and beautifully decorated. All the rooms have at least 2 beds (to accommodate a max of 3 or 4 guests). The bathroom was large and comfortable, with plenty of towels and toiletries (the Drug Store eatery downstairs also has plenty of travel size goods, too). Comfortable bed with lots of squashy pillows and fat quilts (my favorite things in a hotel). And it was blessedly quiet. For being in a busy area, the noise is not an issue. You can't even hear the diners downstairs. But beware, you are going to smell fresh bacon and biscuits cooking at 5am, so come hungry!

Room Tip: The Buffalo Soldier room has a king-sized AND a queen bed, with lots of storage space for luggage an...
