We stayed here to attend the Star Party at the McDonald Observatory. Upon arrival there were delicious fresh homemade peanut butter cookies and coffee or tea. We stayed in room 9 that is at the end of the hall and has a king bed, a little cove area for a small dining table, and ensuite bath with shower. The bed room was lovely with antiques.
Everything was very clean and the sheets and pillows were very nice. There were plenty of toiletries and soft towels.
The breakfast was beautifully arranged with locally roasted coffee, juices, homemade lemon curd muffin, ham and cheese crepe, and fresh fruit.
When we checked out, there was a nice touch also as we were given a little goodie bag to take home with us with some more of those delicious cookies.

The staff and the fresh baked food every day was delightful. We stayed in room 4 and it was nice to have a private porch. We traveled to Fort Davis with our 2 year old and the staff just loved her. It was located in a great place were you could walk into town and eat. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. There was a house pig outside named Tipster that you can feed pecans. My family would defiantly return to this Inn.

We had a fantastic stay at the Veranda Historic Inn. We loved our suite (#5) - it was comfortable and charmingly decorated with antiques. The inn was conveniently located, and we were able to walk to restaurants and shops. The breakfast served each morning was delicious, as were the afternoon snacks. Everything about the inn was gracious and organized for the comfort of our guests. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip through Fort Davis!

We arrived in Fort Davis after spending a couple of days in Big Bend. The hotel is easy to find and located in a neighborhood, but very close to the main street where restaurants and shopping are located. We were able to walk to dinner each night where we checked out the Blue Mountain Bistro and the Ice Cream Soda shop. Both restaurants had great food with good atmosphere. David checked us in at 3p and we had selected the Garden Cottage in the back. Nice room, comfy bed with nice linens and towels. We had a sitting area that looked out over the backyard and the room was very quiet and comfortable. We had access to tea, coffee, water and snacks each evening, and wonderful breakfasts i.e., egg casserole, ham and cheese crepes, homemade banana and poppy seed muffins, fresh fruit, great coffee and juice. Eleanor served us early Friday morning as we had a long drive home. She is delightful and we enjoyed our visit with her during breakfast. We met Tipster the pig and enjoyed visiting with him on the way to our room. He has a very nice area to himself with his own accommodations and he is very quiet! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Fort Davis - we went to the McDonald observatory which is about 25 minutes away and the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center about 15 minutes from hotel. Great hiking and scenery. The leaves were in full color on the drive to the Observatory and were a spectacular yellow. We would definitely return when we are back in the area.

Room Tip: We enjoyed having our own cottage, but the rooms inside the house looked very inviting. Would be perfect for a family reunion or girls get together or slumber party, wedding party, etc.

Our first trip to Fort Davis and it was amazing! Called ahead on a Friday night as we left earlier than anticipated and asked if our room was available for another night! No problem, left the lights on for us! For 130 year old Inn it is in great shape, 12 foot ceilings, wood floors, our room had mostly antique items from 100 years ago. Breakfast is from 8-9:30 and was very good and lots of coffee and tea. 1 TV in the lounge, but who needs it here anyway. Even had a biker convention going on while we where there and it was still extremely quiet. We will be back when we get another chance for sure! Great Home base if you are visiting, Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, McDonald Observatory, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Cities of Alpine and Marfa........too many things to see in a weekend! (Our only negative on this trip was the Government Shutdown!) Checked out the Terlingua, TX cemetery, kind of creepy, but different! If you are are GeoCache Freak like my wife, you will have a great time also!

Room Tip: Room 8 is Huge! Separate Bath, Separate Sitting Area room and Bedroom has King Sized Bed. Faces the street, but was very quiet in this small town. Lots of light and has a window air conditioner if you need it. It's Old and Historic, so enjoy the place!
