“Train enthusiasts a Must See!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2009

I had been here before with a friend, and decided to take the wife and two kids (12 and 8) this time. If you really love trains this place is for you. If not, you could pass. I enjoy the history and display of these magnificent machines. The wife was done in about 20 minutes, the kids lasted twice as long, but you could easily spend 2-3 hours here. They do offer a "train" ride on an old MARC car. Neat if you never were on a train before. We live in an area where we can access old time train rides, so no big deal for us. I especially enjoy the roundhouse with the progression of trains over history.

“Expensive and a bit disappointing!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2006

The roundhouse setting is very nice and the historical engines are a nice collection. However, the $12.00 admission seems quite high. The next day I had just as good an experience at the PA Transportation Museum in Strasburg, PA for only $6.00, plus there was lots more for children to do there.
The HO scale model railroad is nicely done, but size is limited by placement in a railroad car.
Worst of all is their policy prohibiting placement of photos you take on the internet without going through an approval process.
Best deal - go on a sunny day and shoot photos of the trains yet to be restored sitting just beyond the free parking. You can roam for quite awhile and don't have to buy a ticket.
Food concession is farmed out, and very very expensive.
Overalll, a tourist destination that provides some some interesting content, but not much value unless you think that riding old MARC commuter cars for a 1 1/2 mile journey to the end of the grounds is exciting.
