Great attention to detail, expansive displays, frequent tours with meaningful commentary. A bit pricey.

“Not great with young kids”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2014

I had heard that this was a neat little gem in Baltimore and was pretty good for kids; however I wasn't too impressed. There were tons of really neat antiques, but I found a lot of the labels missing or unclear (the machine might be named, but no explanation of how it functioned). There was no one available to answer questions we may have had. They did have "touch boxes" in most rooms, but they were largely empty or incomplete (one had stamps, but all the stamp pads were dry), and a few even had trash in them.

“Unsung History of Charm City”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 January 2014

Surprisingly fun museum, even better with the free guided tour. Provided an interesting look at many of the industries that grew up in and helped grow Baltimore, many of which have since moved on or closed down. Conveniently located near the Inner Harbor area, there is plenty of free parking and plenty to see. There are hands on items for kids but the smaller ones may lose interest. Not as crowded as other downtown attractions, so a leisurely tour is easy and informative.

“Baltimore's blue collar history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 December 2013

The highlight as this is written is a fantastic exhibit of photographer Aubrey Bodine's work. It should be a permanent attraction -- it's wonderful. But the rest of the BMI is well worth the trip, if you want to know anything about the ideas, industries, people, and products that made Baltimore what it is today. Tourguides are a major plus -- they make the displays come alive. And the views of the waterfront from the museum grounds are worth a stop even if you don't want to go nside and see the exhibits.

“Great venue for an event”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

I went to a wedding here, embarrassed to say it was my first time at this museum. What a cool place for an event! As a Baltimorean, it was very interesting to see all the companies that started out in Baltimore and really walk down memory lane. The museum is filled with the history of these old companies and gives you lots to look at during the cocktail hour.
