Just returned from the opening of the Gretchen Feldman exhibition on the third floor of the AVAM. Amazing presentation lovingly organized by her husband, children, and the very talented Rebecca. Food in Mr. Rain's Fun House was wonderful. This museum is a MUST SEE for families and has something for everyone. GO and ENJOY!!!

The museum was unusual and interesting. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it because I'm not that into modern art

“Totally Blown Away!”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

Friends who live in the Baltimore Metro Area took us to the American Visionary Arts Museum (AVAM) and we'll be forever grateful. Baltimore has so many fine museums - plus the Inner Harbor complex - that out-of-town visitors may never stumble upon it. However, if you do be prepared to be amazed!
The admission fee (15.95 for adults) may seem a little steep, but even a - free - peek ar the outside is rewarding. How often do you see a golden hand or a bird's nest balcony attached to a building that also features a mosaic mirror wall and a three-ton, four-story whirligig?
There is a permanent collection, but our time mainly allowed for a tour of the current "All Things Round Exhibit" guided by a wonderful volunteer named Alvin. The works of art are too numerous to mention, but they were all truly unique and inspired.
We didn't visit the restaurant, but we spent some time in the really funky gift shop. That's a great place for stocking up on stocking stuffers!
Don't miss out on the second building, the Jim Rouse Visionary Center, That's the one with a several stories high guitar sitting in front of the door! Inside you find - among other things - a tribute to the "Screen Painters of Baltimore", a historic art form of the area.
Unfortunately we won't be able to attend the "14th Annual Kinetic Sculpture Race" on May 5, but we certainly wish the giant pink poodle - now on display at that building - the best of luck!
All in all - a wondrous place for the whole family to enjoy!
