“Comfortable, clean, considerate and convenient”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

We stayed at this hotel during a trip that was part-convention/part-family vacation. The staff was friendly and helpful, the facilities were very nice, quiet and comfortable, and our room at least had a great view of Baltimore's Inner Harbor (pray you get on a room on the east or north wings). The location was just a short walk to the Inner Harbor's restaurants, shopping, and attractions. Baltimore's free shuttle stops almost right in front of the hotel, and other bus stops and metro stations are within walking distance. The fitness center is well-equipped, and the indoor pool, though small (designed mainly for lap-swims), was well maintained and attended by a lifeguard. While this property is geared more towards a business clientele, they made our kids feel welcome. The valet even brought us each a chilled bottle of water for the ride home when we checked out. The parking was expensive ($26 per day for self-park, $45 for valet parking), but comparable in price to other parking options in downtown Baltimore. We had to use the valet parking because our van's luggage carrier would not fit through the low entrance to the self-park garage, but thankfully because we were there under a group rate they charged just just a little more than the self-park rate. The room rate was comparable to what we would expect to pay at similarly classed hotels, although again, we had a group rate because we were there for a convention. Besides the parking situation, our only real gripe was the fact that there were only a few electrical outlets in the room, which made it a bit of a challenge for 4 people to charge all of our phones, tablets, etc. Lesson learned: pack a power strip, just in case. Overall, a great experience. We would consider staying at this property again.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the harbor side for a great view. If you have a lot of electronic devices, pack...

Honestly I cannot decide what I think about this hotel and here's why - The Price - It overrides all my other feelings about the property. It's immaculately clean, it was easy to find, the room was as expected, the Staff are fantastic but it seems a lot of money for nothing I cannot get anywhere else.
We found it exceedingly easy to get to, our GPS sent us down Pratt St to Light St and the self parking is just past the hotel entrance on the left. It's just a short walk to the hotel and you enter through a side door that leads to the lobby. The guy on check in was fantastic, welcoming, apologetic that no rooms were available yet (we arrived before 4). He soon had our luggage stored away, a street map provided and some helpful hints on where to go and what to do. The hotel is just a road back from the harbor front so a 5 minute walk to the crossing. It's close to everything, the Aquarium, the Baltimore Harbor Ships, the taxi to Fort McHenry.
Once we did check in the room was quite nice, old patterned style carpet but crisp white bed linen. There was a desk/chair, table and soft chair with ottoman. There was a fridge and a Keurig machine in a separate area. The bathroom is very large, has a tv too.
We did not have breakfast included but used the coffee shop downstairs, service was ok as was the choice. We used the bar late both evenings and again nothing special/different but good service.
So as I say lovely staff, nice hotel but nothing special/over and above other hotels we have stayed in and $600 for 2 nights.

This hotel is a really nice place to stay, especially if you get a harbor view room. Wow. The room had an old fashioned elegance and was large by today's standards. We were there for a wedding weekend and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and gracious.

Very comfortable/luxurious hotel, close to Inner Harbor. All good with the stay. Many amenities in the hotel - beautiful pool and exercise area, courtyard. Outside belies the inside architecture. We will return!

First of all its hard to get to with all the one way streets. We circled at least 5 times. They charge an arm and leg to park while staying at their hotel. $26 a day. Our room had a crummy view. It was tattered and worn. The bench at the foot of the bed was frayed and scrapped up. The bed linens smelled horrible and not fresh. The bathroom hardware was missing pieces as well as dirty on wall ledges. Service was excellent. The lobby us very nice with fresh flowers. Could have used them in our room to freshen it up.

The Royal Sonesta is a gem -- you feel like you are staying at a true hotel, not a cookie-cutter property. The rooms are larger than usual, and there is a lovely 7th floor terrace garden with flowers, gazebo, benches and tennis courts next to the fitness/pool facility. You are right on the Inner Harbor with dozens of great things within walking distance including the large boats, National Aquarium and Camden Yard. You are also right on the Charm City Circulator route, which is a friendly, free bus system that travels throughout the city. If you don't want the in-room breakfast, or seating in the restaurant, there is a coffee shop off the lobby with excellent, fresh choices and friendly service. When you come back from an outing and arrive in the charming circular stone courtyard, you truly feel as if you are returning to your home away from home. Yes, it costs a bit more, but it's well worth it.

Dear John L. Thank you for your review of your recent stay. To be honest, I couldn't have said it better myself. You are truly correct in your description. Our rooms are larger, the 7th floor terrace in a nice quiet oasis to relax or play tennis, most attractions are in walking distance and if not the free Charm City Circulator can more than likely get you to your destination. Thank you again and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.
