“Small & historically significant”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

You can explore this whole cemetery in a short visit. Lots of historically significant people here and the graveyard has a rich history of its own! Lots of shade and a beautiful setting, it was worth the stop!

“A ghost tour destination”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

I understand the Ghost Tour brings this centrally located cemetery in the Historic District to life. we took a pass. the brick walls hold ancient headstones from the mid-1700's. The dueling grounds nearby add to the local color of this very old cemetery.Over 600 died of Yellow fever and are buried here. It is sad to see so many young children listed. Not as impressive as Bonaventure, but it stands alone as a tribute to those who were here in the 1700;s to 1850's.

“Walk through this one...”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

Colonial provides a nice stroll through a quiet patch of history in the historic district. Weather worn tombstones date from 1750 till it's closure for burial in 1853. Many early prominent Savannahians interred here. Interestingly, the old dueling grounds run adjacent to the cemetery, and many of the losers ended up over the fence defending a point of honor. Worth your time.

“Very peaceful place to visit, sit, read, take photos.”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

It's better if you know something about Savannah's history but even if you don't, it's a very peaceful and educational place. Especially of interest were the tombstones lined up against a brick wall. Apparently, they were knocked down when the Union forces camped out in the space and the graves were not able to be located. It's very moving, seeing them lined up in memorial.
