5 stars for this fascinating museum. While I am interested in maritime history, my wife definitely is not. Yet we were both enthralled by the ship models and the building that houses them. We enjoyed all of the places we visited in Savannah but this clearly was number 1 on our list

I recently (07 June 09) visited savannah, Ga and the Ships of the Sea Museum - there were a number of static models of some very significant ships there - all hand made. And if you're into the art of model making then this is a mecca! I am an avid sailor - My family has a long history of ships and serving on the sea - But I must admit that aside from one or two videos that caught my eye - This is a one stop place. While I must say that I enjoyed my visit here - I'll not be back.

The ship models are amazing! The museum building itself is beautiful and should not be missed. It is not a large museum so it does not take a lot of time, but it is worth it.

I was fortunate to visit the Savannah Maritime Museum whilst working in the United States this summer.

The models on display were magnificent and very informative.

I was delighted to see an oil painting of a British Clipper Ship named'The Bidston Hill' hanging upon the wall. This ship was built at Birkenhead by John Laird and Sons and is named after the hill at the estuary to the river Mersey near to Birkenhead and opposite Liverpool.

My great grandfather was a sea captain in a similar ship, our family all originating in Liverpool. I have in my possession his sea chest with a picture of the ship painted on the inside of the lid.
