This was my second trip to Oatland Island and I enjoyed it both times. It's a lot of fairly easy wallking but if you do get tired, there are places along the way to sit and rest. It's a beautiful area and the animals are cool, especially the wolves. Its only $5 bucks a person to get in, so as far as price goes, you can't beat it.

I visited the Oatlife Island Wildlife Center today. Several of the displays were closed to the public. While it was a beautiful area, there was an awful lot of walking. There was long areas of just walking between each exhibit. For the elderly it is too much walking, even though it is easy walking. If you go make sure you can walk the 2 miles of paths to the animals.

A quiet and shady stroll thru a nature center. The old structures and well maintained animal enclosures fascinated the kids. Nice place to bring a picnic lunch and have a peaceful day.

Lovely drive in with large parking lot and friendly volunteers in center which is located in large early 1900 era home. Well marekd signage to be able to find and navigate the peaceful and leisure walk/stroll between displays. Habitats so natural you have to be patient to find the animals as they blend in so well. Very relaxing, quiet and enjoyable. The day we visited not crowded at all so made it more enjoyable. They suggest putting on bug repellent, which we had done ahead of time, but were not bothered by any bugs ~ thank goodness. We were able to see most of the animals fairly close with only a few being shy. Unique wolf display. The trail walk is about 1 3/4 miles. We almost didn't visit the Heritage Homesite as we thought it was further in the woods, but decided to when we backtracked. Glad we did as it is a nice display of cabins. Would have been neat to go inside but glad they had this to see. The gift shop has goodies in it and there are covered tables if you decide to bring food to eat. Enjoyable time for all ages and trail can be uneven surface at times but taking it slow we didn't have any problems. We recommend 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hrs. for this depending on it you have kids with you or not and how fast you go through it,it could take longer.
