“Lovely Inn...Great Location”
Reviewed 15 February 2013

I'll qualify this review by saying we generally do not like B&B's. Friends had booked this Inn for a weekend trip with three couples. We reluctantly went along and were pleasantly surprised with how lovely our stay was. We were greatly warmly by Jasmine and shown our room and filled in on the details of the Inn. Our room, on the Courtyard level (NOT the basement!!) was nicely decorated. Breakfast the next morning was a choice of either a hot entree or oatmeal. Fruit is always included and the coffee is plentiful. Tea is offered in the afternoon and is lovely.

The Inn is close enough to walk to the waterfront area and also the opposite direction to the Mercer Williams House (a must see) and Forsythe Park. The Juliette Gordon Low house is next door and well worth touring.

We did find that the windows in our room were not functional and we were quite warm at night. Our friends were on the third floor and had windows that opened, which cooled them sufficiently. That's a pretty small complaint. :)

Overall, it is a lovely Inn. I especially liked the fact that the owner is NOT on site. We have often stayed at B&B's with overly enthusiastic owners who practically stalk you throughout your stay. Such is NOT the case at the Ballastone. The staff who are present are thoroughly professional and very nice. Perfect place for couples and friends travelling together. We loved it.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the Courtyard level....opt for the higher floors.

We had the most relaxing time at the Ballastone Inn. If you want to be spoiled, this is the place to be. We were greeted when we arrived, shown to our room and were offered tea and sweets in the tea room. In the evening, there was port and sherry in the bar. The rooms were each decorated differently and very comfortably. Breakfast in the morning was delicious.
The entire staff was cheerful and ready to answer any questions or help in any way. We enjoyed chatting with all the staff. They really seemed to love their jobs and the Inn.
They helped us book tours and had recommendations on what to see and where to eat.
We will definitely return.

Room Tip: We stayed in Scarlett's Retreat. It was very comfortable. We would definitely stay there again.

My wife and I like B&B's for vacations as we have had it with the corporate travel for 35+ years and have seen all the hotels. Anyway, Ballastone is the the best B&B we have ever experienced. It's centrally located, clean, rooms have plenty of room to move about, fireplaces everywhere, etc. breakfast was plentiful and delicious and service terrific. It was a little pricey, but worth it. We stayed in Victoria room which was just beautiful, but we got a chance to see several of the other open rooms which were just as nice. If your going to stay in Savannah this is the place!

PS on a side note don't go to Paula Deens restaurant. Tourist trap run by kids not chefs. Food and wine was terrible. There are so many other good places to eat don't waste your time at PD's . Try Pink House or Mrs Welks for lunch!

Room Tip: Victoria Suite

The next time we travel to Savannah, we WILL be staying in one of the many different themed rooms at the Ballastone Inn. We stayed for a mini honeymoon in the Victoria suite and were so impressed by the phenomenal service and amenities. The concierge was so helpful and took care of the details we didn't want to think about. The rooms that weren't in use had their doors open so we could see the other themed rooms. Breakfast was prepared when and where we wanted, turndown service made it so special and cozy, and they even took care of the champagne and strawberries (with a note!) by my husband waiting for us upon arrival. The staff was always pleasant and made us feel so special. The afternoon tea and dinnertime drinks were so fun to experience. We cannot say enough good things. We have recommended the inn to everyone we know who are thinking about taking a trip to Savannah. We will never be able to stay anywhere else in Savannah. Can't wait to return!

Room Tip: Go for the suite! We didn't want to leave the room it was so nice.

A charming inn in a charming area of a charming city. The place is infused with antebellum quaintness. Our room, Mary Musgrove (all the rooms have names rather than numbers) was very pretty and the bed delightfully comfortable. The staff are remarkably helpful and friendly.

This is an inn, not a large hotel, so there is a certain degree of intimacy with other guests. Nevertheless, we heard no sound at all from adjoining rooms.

The included breakfast was wonderful. Complimentary tea and sandwiches are served in the afternoon, and sherry is available after dinner.

The Inn is located in Savannah's historical area, close to picturesque streets lined with huge, ancient trees dripping Spanish moss, lovely squares, shopping, restaurants, and the riverfront. The Inn itself is part of the area's charm.

The only potential downside is the scarcity of parking behind the inn. I can't fault the Ballastone for this, given the Inn's location, but guests considering a stay here should be aware that street parking may be required (passes are available from the hotel). There is a bus loading area right in front of the Inn; we were able to park there (illegally, but apparently everyone parks there temporarily without repercussion) while we checked in.

We arrived at The Ballastone and we thoroughly impressed from the first moment till the last. The room "Scarlett's Retreat" was beautiful and the bed was so comfortable. Melissa, Kirsten, and all the staff made this weekend so special. We loved the romantic pkg. Carriage ride was so interesting and dinner at The Old Pink House was the best. We had a wonderful breakfast every morning. We will hopefully see you next year.

My husband and I need a getaway, we chose Savannah because it was close enough to drive for the weekend. The Ballastone Inn staff could not have been more accomodating. Every room was beautiful. We will go back soon.
