“the worst bed and breakfast ever”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

I love staying in bed and breakfasts and have for years. However, the Eliza Thompson was the very WORST experience I have had! It began when I called the front desk asking for some suggestions of activities to do while in Savannah and found the woman answering the phone to be very indifferent..

Our room was very small and the bathroom tiny with absolutely no where to store personal bath room items.

The breakfast was beyond disappointing.

Room Tip: Ask if your room is in the outside house and ask how many flights of stairs you will need to go.

We were in Savannah the Saturday and Sunday before Christmas. Pulled up onto a lovely tree-lined street and what on the outside was a beautiful B&B. Once inside, it was very disappointing.

Our room was not clean - parts not dusted in a long time. Neither was the bathroom clean - soap scum on the bath faucet, shower handle covered in mold. I dropped something on the floor only to observe the floor around the commode was very dirty. Light bulbs out too.

Breakfast was mediocre at best, not much better than a serve yourself breakfast from a low end chain. You eat outside, which sounds appealing, except when it's cold and rainy and everything feels damp.

When afternoon appetizers were served, the carrots were so old they were white!

It was too bad because the location was great, near Forsythe park and not far from the river.

We spent 2 nights here during Christmas week. Everything was just perfect! Our room was lovely and clean. The Inn was beautifully decorated and looked great. Everyone who worked there was helpful and nice and made us feel right at home. I highly recommend the Eliza Thompson house.

Savannah's Finest!

During my travels and in particularly around the USA, I was extremely fortunate to book accommodation at the Eliza Thompson House in 5 West Jones Street, Savannah.....

This attractive property situated within a stone throw from everything that is popular and historical about Savannah is a dream come true for all visitors to the area.

The staff are so welcoming, pleasant and attentive to your every needs.

On your arrival and check the staff are both quick and efficient. We were shown to our room, which was amazing in its decor and design, with a bed invitingly oozing in comfort.
Every room in this luxurious house is different and totally unique in style with a touch of real class!
Another great focal point was the water design feature in the centre of the landscaped courtyard surrounded with patio tables and chairs just off the breakfasting kitchen area, where food is served every morning, expertly cooked up by Ms Virginia.
At 5pm each evening, all guests are encouraged to meet up and get to know each other in the front lounge, where wine and soft drinks accompanied by some rather tasty canopes are made available all complimentary followed by a similar offering of tea, coffee and cake at 10pm.

What a great touch this is by the Innkeeper and a clever way to having guests meet up and exchange views and ideas or, just become new friends.

Definitely a return visit to the Eliza Thompson House will be on my agenda on my next trip to Savannah, which is totally steeped in history with so much to see and do, you'll need more than a few days to take it all in.

I would also highly recommend taking one of the many tours available, which I found to be extremely informative and can be booked for you by ETH reception, where they arrange for you to be picked up directly outside the hotel.

A Special reception awaits you from the wonderful Sheila Scott the Innkeeper who is an absolute gem of person with her excellent 'laid back, warm approach to everything a credit to her company ...

The friendly staff' who, under the guidance and leadership of Sheila Scott are eager to make your stay a memorable one.
A first class hotel in every way and I wholeheartedly recommend a visit! My vote 10 out of 10 .....

My wife and I stayed here in October 2013. Super nice place. It has that great old south feel. The rooms were very nice. The courtyard was one that I could have sat in all day long. The breakfast was different every day and delicious. I had the best bacon here that I have ever had. In fact they have snacks all day long and you wouldn't even need to go out to eat. There was enough to eat here. I recommend it highly.

Great stay! Loved everything about it and added to the whole historic Savannah experience. Location is great and was exactly what I was looking for! I really enjoyed the breakfast, sine and cheese and dessert. Very charming b&b.

My husband and I had never stayed at a B&B before, and I think the Eliza Thompson house spoiled us! The staff, especially Nell, were amazing. The other guests certainly had something to do with our great stay, as we got to know them well during the wine & cheese hour. The food was excellent, the staff was so very friendly, and I was sad to leave.
