“Great!”
Reviewed 24 July 2014 via mobile

This was a lovely B&B. The staff was extremely helpful in advising us about restaurants, tours, etc. The breakfast was amazing and such a lovely experience to sit outside is the garden to eat. The room was really nice and had all the fabulous atmosphere you would wish for in Savannah. I would absolutely stay there again.

I was attending a wedding in Savannah this past February for a dear friend and decided to treat myself and stay in a B&B. What a great experience. I drove down from Ohio and had gotten in very late. The lady who checked me in was so welcoming. She went and got me a hot cup of tea. We talked about the house and the history. She escorted me to my room. The court yard was so nice the next day in the light. Bet it must be amazing when it is a little warmer out to really enjoy the weather. Breakfast was ok, it is a little small in there and didnt have a whole lot of offerings, but I was very happy to have had breakfast included. Overall it was a great stay.

We stayed at the Eliza Thompson House over the 4th of July holiday weekend. It is a bed & breakfast located along Jones Street in the historic district of Savannah. The inn itself is conveniently located to River Street, restaurants and many of the historic homes in the area. The house has been converted from its original configuration. There is a book in the rooms that provides a history of the house and what it used to look like. We were in the St. Julian’s Room which used to be dining room. Where the bathroom is today was part of the rear staircase shaft.

You are provided a tour and brief history of the property when you check-in. Our room had two queen beds which were about as twice as high from what you see today. There were step stools for each bed to assist with climbing onto the bed, while doable without, does help by not having to jump up. The beds were comfortable, although the pillows were a little too hard for me. The room also had two cushioned chairs and small table located next to the fireplace. It also had two dressers, one on each side of the room. The television was located on the far dresser and could be seen from all parts of the bedroom. There is also a turn down service each evening where you get two chocolates on each bed.

The bathroom was unique. You had several steps to navigate. There is one step up to get to the sink and two more to get to the toilet and bathtub. At first I questioned the design, but after learning that the area used to be a staircase it actually made sense. The lighting in the bathtub section could’ve been better, but it was not that bad. They do not have a bathmat, but the hand-towels are big enough to use as a bathmat. We had issues with the toilet working properly but were able to fix it ourselves. It was a annoying but not a major issue. I’m sure they would’ve fixed it promptly if necessary.

Breakfast in the morning was served buffet style in the courtyard on the ground floor. The choices changed each morning, but you could expect an egg dish, bacon, sausage or ham, and hash browns. Yogurt and grits were available each morning as well. As there are no children allowed at the inn, the breakfast was catered towards adults. They did a good job in replenishing the plates and silverware, although might have to hunt for them sometimes during the morning rush. The food was good and you could eat as much as you want. They also do not rush you out, so you can spend as much time as you want while sitting in the courtyard reading a book or just talking.

From 1730 to 1900 there is a free wine and cheese reception in the library. There is both red and white wine (and soft drinks) available. There was also a selection of finger food to tide you over before heading out for dinner. It is a good opportunity to interact with the other guests staying at the inn. Sherry is also available throughout the day. In the evenings from 2030 to 2200 they have desserts and coffee in the library as well.

The library also has a free computer and printer for your use. It is a comfortable area to just sit back and relax outside of your room while taking in the atmosphere of the inn. As seating can be limited during the evening snacks, there are even cushions on the fireplace railings for people to sit on. The front desk is located adjacent to the library so you can ask any questions about the inn or Savannah that may come up during a conversation.

Parking for the inn is along the city streets. It is free on holidays and the weekends, but not during the weekdays. The metered parking costs $2 an hour, but you can get a parking pass for 48 hours for $12 from the front desk. The pass is valid for all city metered and garage parking. You will also need to pay attention to the signs for which side of the street to park. They conduct street cleaning certain days of the week, with most of the streets surrounding the inn being cleaned Saturday and Sunday mornings. You will be ticketed if parked in those areas posted. The signs stated that cleaning was from basically midnight to 0800. The inn had a sign on the front desk reminding you of these requirements. We never had an issue finding a spot close to the hotel even when it was crowded.

If you are looking for a place to stay in the historic section of Savannah and do not mind spending a little more than what you would find in a modern hotel, the Eliza Thompson House is definitely a bed & breakfast to consider. It has a great atmosphere and the staff was kind and helpful. While there were people who were just driving through and staying for only one night, to do the inn and Savannah any justice plan on spending a few days here.

We chose the Eliza Thompson House based on tripadvisor ratings and comments! It did not disappoint. The room was beautiful and the beds were sooooo comfortable. Everything was perfect. The staff was so kind and helpful. They not only recommended dinner options but also made our reservations. We had a great time meeting people visiting from other countries during the "wine and cheese" hour. On our last day before leaving, we loaded our car with our luggage and then walked the very short block next door to eat at Mrs Wilkes, a definite must. Be sure to get in line around 10:15!!!!

We really enjoyed our stay at the charming Eliza Thompson house. Our room was full of cool historical pieces.

Everything you want to see is in close proximity. It was great coming back to the B&B after a day of sightseeing in beautiful Savannah.

What a beautiful place to stay. The room was comfortable and the bed was nice and comfortable also. A special thank you to Ms. Virginia who made breakfast something to look forward to each day. She was a gem to talk to as well.
The afternoon wine and later, the sweets was a nice end to the day. Thanks to all the staff for all the hard work they do to make the Eliza House a pleasure to visit.

We spent one night in this hotel recently and enjoyed our experience. Our room was really nice and quiet. We enjoyed the garden in which we ate our delicious breakfast. The location was great. We could easily walk to restaurants, squares, places to visit.
