“A great choice when in Savannah!”
Reviewed 24 March 2013

Stayed here while we were in Savannah for a couple days. Chose the hotel based on Marriott locations in Savannah so I could use points. Check-in was fast and friendly and the hotel is conveniently located to walk to all of Savannah's attractions, and almost next to the visitor center.

They don't have any rooms with 2 beds, so I was a little worried, but I needn't have been! The rooms were extremely spacious, and the kids slept just fine on the sofa sleeper, and we finally got a great night's sleep on a king size bed! A fully appointed kitchen is available in the rooms, but we never had a need to use it. The hotel's complimentary breakfast was very expansive and I was glad to finally have fresh fruit!

We were placed in one of the "cottages" just outside the outdoor pool and gazebo area. This area is beautiful and a nice quiet retreat. The kids loved this area too, and could easily access the pool almost right outside their doorstep!

Only negatives were that the room did show some signs of wear. Although it was generally extremely clean we found some dirty mugs in the kitchen, and the countertop and floor in the bathroom also had some stains, that I'm sure with a little deep cleaning could come clean. Also, quite a bit of dust in the bathroom under the sink area. Most wouldn't notice, but my husband who pays attention to detail did. We also had a problem with our toilet not flushing when we arrived, but the staff were very quick to address it and had the problem fixed very quickly!

Overall an excellent stay and would highly recommend this hotel for anyone coming to Savannah!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in one of the cottages (1st floor), so that you have your own little private sanctuar...

I am disappointed that we missed some of the details such as the stained coffee mugs and the dust in the bathroom, however your comments are such a valuable tool in eliminating such problems in the future! I will certainly share your feedback with the associates. I am glad to hear we quickly took care of the maintenance issues you were experiencing. Thanks again for taking the time to share your comments on TripAdvisor. I hope that we have the opportunity to serve you again soon!

Ok, the worst first. It is on the wrong side of MLK Blvd. Crossing isn't always easy. The good, everything else. A lot of well designed room for the $. Great service. Trust me, some hotels don't clean your room on St. Patrick's Day. The convenience store in front is off putting, but there is green space around the hotel. Breakfast is not gourmet, but better than a Hampton Inn. Having stayed at Hilton Desoto, Eliza Thompson, Marshall House and Kehoe Inn, I've got reservations here for next year.

Made hotel reservation months in advance and used points from my membership, when we arrived the type and location of the room I requested was not available and there were only two choices (one was a handicapped room and the other was outside of the main building). Since we felt like leaving the handicapped room open in case someone really needed it , we took the room which was on the second floor outside of the hotel. The room was OK but we had to haul our luggage up the steps. We had to use the fold out couch because we had our son with us and found some trash that was behind the couch. The breakfast was OK, we did not have time to go the the evening reception so I cannot comment on it. The hotel is not in the historic downtown area but at the outer fringes, it was not a bad walk as long as the weather cooperates, which it did. Savannah is great, a lot to do and we crammed in as much as we could for the three days we were there.

Thank you for staying at the Residence Inn Savannah Historic District while visiting Savannah. I also appreciate you taking the time to share your comments regarding your stay. I apologize for the cleanliness issues you experienced and that you did not receive the room type requested.

While it is rare, there are times when we are not able to assign the room type reserved, we typically try to upgrade our guest when this does happen. It appears you were upgraded to a cottage suite which is one of our most requested room types.

I regret that you found debris under the sofa bed. I will review your comments with our staff to make sure we make the appropriate corrections so that future guests do not experience the same issue.

In regards to location, we are located in the Historic District next to the Visitors Center and the Roundhouse Railroad Museum. Our location offers our guest a quiet get-away, free from the traffic and noise of many of the other hotels in the district. While we are in walking distance to all major attractions and dining and enterntainment venues. our hotel guest have access to the DOT shuttle which runs throughout the historic district.

I hope that you will return to Savannah and stay at the Residence Inn - Savannah Historic District. We look forward to serving you again and we hope that your stay will be perfect in every way!

We had a king suite and it was very nice. Firm mattress and nice large flat screen TV viewable from bed and living area. Walking distance to historic downtown area. Breakfast was included in room rate.

This is one of the cleanest Residence Inns I've been to. Both the public areas and the room we stayed in were clean and welcoming.

My husband and I were looking for a hotel with an actual bedroom with a door because our toddler goes to bed around 7:00 pm which would leave us hanging out in the dark had we booked a regular hotel room. The one bedroom king suite was perfect. Our little one was able to go to bed while we hung out and watched TV.

PROS:
*Friendly staff
*Mini-market at the front of the hotel with things like snacks, drinks and basic necessities.
*Room was modern with stainless steel appliances (full size refrigerator, microwave, stove and dishwasher)
*Breakfast area and selection was decent - waffles, eggs and hash, sausages, biscuits and gravy, cereal, muffins, bagels, toast, yogurt and fruit as well as juice and coffee.
*Great price - we booked the day before for a Saturday night stay and paid $169 (this was at the very beginning of tourist season mind you). They also gave us a room in the quietest part of the hotel which was really nice.
*They have valet parking.
*Black out curtains - floor to ceiling with a valence. That equates to good sleep.
*Laundry facility (coin operated) on site

CONS:
*NOTE: These cons are all superficial - I'm being nit-picky.
*Location is okay; It's a short drive to Forsyth park and the historic section of town and is in close proximity to what looks like "the hood" (i.e., I wouldn't walk around at night) with buildings that have boarded up windows etc. It's also right next door to a gas station - which could be considered convenient but could be noisy.
*Not a huge con but it's $12 to have valet park your car.
*The pillows are all very soft and they don't provide extras in the closet - which would be nice.
*The quilt is very light so for those who run cold, bring an extra blanket or something warm to sleep in during the winter months

We'll definitely go back the next time we're in Savannah. The alternatives for a hotel with an actual bedroom don't even compare. There is one but it's double the price.

Keep it up Residence Inn. Nice job.

Room Tip: Apparently they have cottages that are very noisy but we stayed on the first floor (rooms in the 120...

You can walk to the downtown, river walk area easily from this hotel. Walking back? Its a challenge if it is late at night and you have consumed some adult beverages!! Good news is, that a cab is only about $5 from that area to the hotel. The rooms are spacious and nice. Front desk staff is very nice. The gym has all the equipment you need for your exercise routine. Laundry facilities onsite as well. The room has a kitchen, but no oven (not that I care, because I won't cook in a hotel room), just an observation. Comfortable bed, clean linens...exactly what I would expect from a Marriott property. If you are lucky, you can score free parking if you park on the side street on the back side of the hotel.

Thanks for being our guest and taking the time to write a review of our hotel on TripAdvisor! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and that you were pleased with the location of the hotel. We are conviently located next door to the Visitors Center and we are a much quieter location than some of the Bay Street hotels. If you are not up for walking you can always take advantage of the DOT shuttle which provides complimentary transportion around the historic district and picks up and drops off at our front door! Thanks again for being our guest! We look forward to your return!
