“Great location and friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2014

My 19 year old daughter, husband and I stayed here for four night while visiting Savannah. The location of the hotel is great - right on the edge of the historic district. Very close to where the sightseeing trolleys depart and only about a 10-15 minute walk to River and Bay Street.

We arrived at the hotel around noon and were told our room wasn't ready so we left our luggage and went off to check out Ms Wilkes for lunch (a must do in Savannah!). We returned around 4 pm to be told that the hotel was completely sold out and that our room wasn't ready yet. We probably didn't get into our room until closer to 5 o'clock but received apologies from the manager for the delay and a $50 credit (yippee!).

Since we were going to be there for a while and we have an adult daughter, we opted for one of the two bedroom suites. Nice rooms with each bedroom having its own bathroom and the common area having a sofa (my daughter loved it my husband hated it), a chair, a desk, a small table with two chairs, a stovetop, microwave, dishwasher and full-sized fridge.

The rooms were clean and quiet and it was nice to be able to work on my computer in the mornings while my husband and daughter slept.

We hit the breakfast buffet every morning - the woman manning it was so pleasant and friendly despite the hordes of folks descending upon her like a swarm of locusts. There was hot food (scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, hash), oatmeal, several cold cereals, yogurt, fruit, juice, toast, muffins, bagels and English muffins.

The manager's reception is held Monday thru Thursday so we only were able to go the night we arrived and frankly we were so full from Mrs Wilkes that I only ran down to grab a beer (Genesee Cream Ale - yum).

There is a gas station located right next store were you can pick up some basic supplies - funnily enough they don't sell containers of 1/2 and 1/2 or seltzer water both of which my husband requested. They do, however, have a most impressive walk in cooler filled with adult beverages. Didn't buy any so I can't tell you about the prices.

Never used the fitness center but did poke my head in - looked clean. Did use the pool several times. Warm water made me happy but they ran out of towels a lot - but they brought them out as soon as they were washed. Perhaps they should invest in a few more.

I was disappointed by the fact that I remembered leaving something in the room and called the hotel the next day to check. They promised to get back to me, but never did.

We were also disappointed when we returned to the room around 5:30 to find it had yet to be cleaned - I called to ask about it and was told they were running behind because of all the folks who had checked out that day. The maid did appear eventually but everyone was resting so I just got some clean towels and left it at that.

One thing to keep in mind staying here is that the taxi service in Savannah is very slow - especially compared to places like NYC. We had to wait at least 15 minutes both times we called for the cab. The fare to/from the airport for three people was $38 plus tip each way.

Near the Civic Center, so convenient for events there. Avoid the Cottages, as they are a bit ragged and badly in need of upgrade and better mattresses. Don't know about rooms in main building, but the lobby and public areas were spotless and like new. Great for families, as the facilities and evening free dining events and breakfasts are like big parties with free drinks on those evenings. What made this hotel were the staff. Extremely helpful and friendly, from front desk to food personnel to housekeeping. Couldn't have been friendlier and nicer. One exception was a difficult female parking attendant and I only say that to separate from the other bellmen/attendants, because those others were great. Downtown City Market and waterfront is walkable, but a little far.

Room Tip: Try main building.

We were very happy to stay at this Hotel. Friendly staff, valet parking service and nice pool area.
Would absolute recommend to stay at this Hotel, free bus shuttel just next door ( at the Visitor center).
Savannah is a beautful city, would recommend to take the oldest hop on7 hop off bus for an overview of the city.

Room Tip: Book directly at Marriott.com to get the best deals, easier for an upgrade.

My husband and I stayed here for 8 days in June. We checked in very late and was greeted by Kristen who was very pleasant and friendly given the late hour. We were given a handicap room and was moved to another room with a pool side view the next morning. This is where things get interesting.

My husband discovered the loveseat had a wet cushion of urine! Apparently the previous guest had a pet and allowed it to urinate on the loveseat and even tried to cover it up with a towel. We brought it to Zippora Davis' attention, the Guest Service Manager. She was very apologetic, had Housekeeping stream clean the cushion and made a financial adjustment on our bill. The cleaning helped but the cushion still had a slight odor which caused us to be uneasy about the cleanliness of the rest of the room but we didn't have anymore encounters. I rated the rooms average because of this.

The hotel provided breakfast every morning and a snack in the evenings which was served with a smile by the head Chef. I think her name is Deane. She was a joy to meet everyday.

Overall, our stay was enjoyable. The hotel should consider allocating rooms solely for pets. Not everyone is a pet lover and some of us have allergies. The hotel should have housekeeping check sofa beds as part of their cleaning process. The urine filled cushion would have been caught had housekeeping done a better job.

Not sure if we'll stay here again unless they have sanitized non-pet rooms.

Room Tip: Get poolside view

Stayed here for one short night during a brief stop in Savannah. We stayed in a one bedroom cottage, which overlooked the pool. The staff were all extremely friendly, the pool was lovely, and the cottage was great. Also noticed that there were almost no bugs, which seemed a nice surprise for July. Two items of note-this is a pretty good distance from the real historic area/downtown, but it's easy enough to drive. Also, there is free parking on the far side of the hotel on the brick street, despite what the hotel's website indicates.

i would definitely stay here again for a trip to Savannah.

although it doesn't have the cache of some of the historic hotels in the city, it does provide wonderful service, very comfortable rooms, is affordable, and a short walk from most attractions. their free breakfast, and managers socials, are good, and you could probably skip going out to a restaurant if you are so inclined.
