Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: Located near historic Savannah, this park borders Skidaway narrows, a part of Georgia’s intracoastal waterway. Trails wind through maritime forest and past salt marsh, leading to a boardwalk and observation tower. Visitors can watch for deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets and other wildlife. Inside the park’s interpretive center, birders will find binoculars, reference books and a window where they can look for migrating species such as Painted Buntings. Children will especially enjoy seeing the towering, 20-foot Giant Ground Sloth replica and reptile room. A scenic campground is nestled under live oaks and Spanish moss, while groups can enjoy privacy in their own pioneer campgrounds. Open-air picnic shelters and an enclosed group shelter are popular spots for parties, reunions and other celebrations.

I have not stayed overnight at the park so I am writing purely as a day visitor.

The park is relatively small and easy to see. I love the shaded trails. Great for walking, running or even trail biking. Lots of opportunities to see wildlife. The trails are flat and nice packed sand. Just watch for roots if you are running.

The park is not loaded up with things to do. It is a place to relax, unwind and enjoy the outdoors.

One last thing. If you are coming to Savannah in the summer, yes it is going to be hot! It is not an unknown. If you don't want to be hot, come at a different time!

Nature at its best! my family and I visited this place with very simple expectations and they were met and more! We wandered the trails with the kids, saw some wildlife and spoke with some knowledgeable staff at the little animal center.Getting to pet a snake was the kids favorite part of the visit! Thank you to the staff for making the trip quite memorable!

We've tried Skidaway Island State Park two ways: camping in springtime and the RV Cabin in summer. Both experiences have been terrific. While camping, we used the "comfort stations'" showers and toilets. They were always clean, but sometimes busy because it was spring break and the campground was fully booked. The campsites are spaced out well, have a fire pit and grill. Our site had enough space for two two-person tents. We just came back from three nights in one of the RV cabins which was clean and cozy. The sleeping loft really is for kids. An adult can't stand upright up there and the stairwell is very, very narrow. I had to turn sideways to get up there and my feet were longer than the steps! The bedroom has a queen-sized bed. The bathroom is very small and there's no ventilation other than opening a window. That can be...troublesome since the cabin is so small. I've been trying to figure out why the cabin bathrooms and stoves aren't ventilated. My best guess is that they want to cut down on the number of openings in the building to reduce access for bugs and critters. We highly recommend the cabins for summer visits because it can get VERY hot and muggy in summer on Skidaway. Tybee Island beach is 35 minutes away without traffic. We're really happy with our Skidaway experiences so far and will be back in the fall!

We found it nice to get "with" nature and walk around. Neat to see the palm trees and plants along the walk. There's a real pretty area with wispy like trees with the moss on them that's fun to walk through also.
