“Love East Bay Inn”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

We stayed at the East Bay Inn last Thanksgiving and returned this year for our Thanksgiving getaway...and we will be back again!! We love Savannah and have visited many times, but the EBI is our new home while in Savannah. Friendly and knowledgable staff; clean, spacious and comfortable rooms; great breakfast and the wine and cheese each evening is a nice time to unwind and meet other guests; location is convenient...just park and walk to enjoy all the sites downtown. We especially love that we can take our pup with us when visiting the EBI. Savannah and the East Bay Inn are a wonderful combination!!

I stayed here a few weeks ago for a girls' weekend with my mom and aunt. The whole experience was wonderful at the East Bay Inn. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, especially Julie at the front desk and Melvin the Bellman. We had a room on the top floor, so the ceilings were very high and the room was decorated beautifully! Anything we needed during our stay was there and the front desk was very helpful to offer recommendations for dining, finding things to do, etc. The wine and cheese hour was fun and I would recommend going early to get the best appetizers! Excellent location as well, just a short walk to the major attractions!

From start to finish we had a wonderful stay! Each staff member was friendly and helpful. The room was beyond what we expected, the breakfast was so good. We even discussed how good with other guests on the elevator ride back to our floor. Great location. Only drawback was intermittent WiFi. We will recommend to others and will be back.

Room Tip: Just ask for corner suite.

10 reasons I am extremely satisifed I chose to stay at this hotel in Savannah:

1) Southern Hospitality at its best! The staff were so accomodating & hospitable. Staff did their best to genuinely demonstrate the definition of southern hospitality.

2) The Inn's decor is charming and quaint. Upon entering, one feels as though they've stepped back in time. The room was charming, clean and welcoming.

3) Free Wi-Fi in your room

4) 'Cordials' served in the evening

5) Complimentary breakfast in the morning.

6) Located downtown and within walking distance to ferry.

7) Walking distance to shopping, restaurants, parks

8) Nice Touch: A guest book is left in your room to share your personal experiences about your stay at the East Bay Inn

9) Helpful staff.

10) A great price!

This hotel feels more like a bed and breakfast. It is smaller than the big name hotels and comfortable. The staff makes you feel special with suggestions on where to eat, what to see etc. The hot Breakfast was wonderful with more then most hotels, and wine at 5:00 also a great touch. Nice way to meet other guest. Easy to walk to river walk. Great place to stay.

Pros:
*An older building that has maintained the character and charm with wood floors, brick walls, high ceilings, gorgeous drapes, large crown molding, and antique furniture.
*Excellent customer service. Staff is friendly and helpful.
*FREE wi-fi.
*Complimentary cold bottled water from the front desk.
*Complimentary wine and cheese for two hours each evening in the bar area. There were light hors d'oeuvres each night that we attended.
*Free hot breakfast consisted of eggs, scrambled eggs, sausage or ham (different days), biscuits, gravy, pancakes, breads, bagels, yogurt, 3 cereals, fresh whole fruit, coffee, and juice. This is served in the basement, which has great character with painted brick floors, exposed beams and floor joists, and a charming staircase (also elevator accessible).
*Excellent location on Bay Street. Within walking distance of all shops and restaurants downtown and on River Street.
*Comfortable beds.
*Our room had a large love seat (large enough for a child to sleep) and two wing back chairs.
*Flat screen TV.
*Hot shower with curved shower curtain rod.
*Thicker towels than typical hotels.
*Turn down service with mints.
*Parking garage close by.
*Knowledgeable bellman who took our luggage to our room. He shared info about the building, which was originally a cotton warehouse.

Cons:
*Creaky floors. Actually a plus for me, because it added to the charm, but for light sleepers, this might be annoying, as you can not only hear people in your room, but also others when A/C unit is not running and all else is quiet.
*Street noise. We were two rooms back from Bay Street and could hear the continuous traffic. It might not be as bad further back into the hotel.
*Doors need slow closures. Very heavy doors that slam if not closed purposefully gently.
*Elevator noise. Our room was next to the elevator, and we could hear it, but it wasn't obnoxious.
*Because of the shape of our room, the armoire which housed the TV, was set back in the living area, which wasn't great for viewing from both beds, although it did pull out and swivel, which was helpful.
*Small bathroom due to older building.
*Limited outlets due to older building, although there was one with four receptacles in the middle of the room. Just not any near a mirror other than the bathroom.

We stayed two nights at The East Bay Inn and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a lovely hotel, rooms with great character. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Yes, it is an older hotel. Yes, the floors might creak a bit. To me that is part of the character of the hotel. We were lucky enough to get a parking space at the hotel and never moved our car. We would stay again and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.
