“Elegant and comfortable”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

We stayed in one of the Superior Queen rooms overlooking the front of the hotel. Gorgeous high ceilings and exposed brick walls. Nice big bathrooms. Soft robes and towels. Comfortable beds. Turn down service (with mint!). Valet service to your room. We didn't take advantage of it, but they also allow dogs!

They provided a huge packet of tourist stuff - map, brochures - for planning and getting around. They're right across from the riverfront so there was a lot of activity and places to see and eat.

The breakfast is buffet style and a little pedestrian, but good.

The only downside is that the hotel is a little noisy. We could hear all the activity on the street and the people staying in the room next to ours. We like hustle and bustle (and are heavy sleepers) so the noise did not bother us, but it's something to be aware of.

We stayed here 12/25 and 12/26 2013. On arrival the receptionist seemed to be having a grumpy day, didn’t seem to want to be there – and it was Christmas! After getting off on this wrong foot (and we noted it with comments to the hotel website) staff went out of their way to be nice, welcoming, and offered very engaged service and genuinely seemed to care, kudos for a service turnaround. Hotel location is great; walking distance to the restaurants, a park across the street, and historic points of interest.
This is an old building; they have done a decent job converting it to a hotel. Our room was pretty dark but good lighting is provided to offset this. Room 101 is a great room for dog owners as there is an enclosed private patio in back – this is very spartan; simply bricks, a dirt border (some plants in there would be nice). Ice was close by, yet far enough there was no noise from it. The hardwood floors throughout the hotel are very attractive, but the people above us sounded like a tap dance convention at times – sound carries. We could also hear the elevator, a gentle rumble now and then.
A decent breakfast is offered; scrambled eggs, ham, biscuits and gravy, juice, coffee, yogurt, cereal, etc. There is also a nice wine + cheese reception evenings; jug wine and standard (cheddar/jalapeno jack) cheeses and crackers, but it provided a nice opportunity to socialize with other guests in a very nice setting.
Recommend this hotel especially if you are travelling with pets. They are very accepting of pets, there is a park directly across the street, you can walk with your pet through the historic district and squares as the hotel is pretty centrally located in this area. The historic district in Savannah is in demand, so parking can be a challenge, however, we did not have any problems and found a space at the hotel each night.

Room Tip: 101 is good for travellers with pets.

A friend had recommended The East Bay Inn for our stay in Savannah. When we arrived to the red brick building we noticed that it's location was right across from the River where we would find many shops and restaurants. Our welcome was warm and led by Shelia who soon came to feel like family as she made her suggestions for each day of our stay. Our room was charming with a brick wall, large windows and a very comfy bed. Our rate included breakfast and cocktail hour which made it all even more enjoyable. Located in the historic district, The East Bay Inn was accessible to everything by foot and we never had to move our car.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would stay there again when in Savannah

Our stay at EBI was one of the best I've had in awhile. I gave a 5 for value because we got good rates for an "off" season time, but I know the $ for our room almost doubled a week after we left. This is an historical building so I expected and got all of the charms that come with it. One wall in our room was from original structure, so were the floors. The beds! Most comfortable I've ever slept in. Clean bathroom, great shower.
Breakfast was in the basement and it was so charming. Great food too. Front desk was super friendly and helpful too. Only once did I have to park in the garage, but it's only a block away and no big deal to me. Location was great as well. I will definitely go back.

It was excellent. I particularly appreciated the help the front desk gave me in finding a service department for my car. The location is in the heart of the historic district with easy access to the sights, shopping and restaurants.

what a nice surprise East Bay was. Very cozy just like the description of our room. Loved the change from a routine hotel to a comfortable and charming Bed and Breakfast. We will definitely stay here again though I would also like to stay at one of the sister locations as well. East Bay gave us the great "Savannah" feel that I was expecting in such a special location. Short walk to the River St. shops and venue is a great asset to this hotel

Room Tip: Loved the "cozy" queen on the second floor

We stayed for 2 days over the Thanksgiving Holiday so first want to thank everyone for working so we could have a lovely holiday. From making the reservation to checking out everything was in order and as expected. Shirley at the front desk and Melvin the Bellman were awesome, helpful, friendly and helped us plan what to see and how to see it. The location made walking to just about anything we wanted to see easy enough for the average person. Being across from the river made it fun to go and watch the huge ships, people and street entertainers. Restaurants, shops and City Market close and worth checking out. The hotel is historic and strives hard to keep that apperance and still keep up the hotel to today's standards. We had a top level room so no noise and creaking above us but we did hear guests coming down our hall and there was one guest who insisted on loudly closing their door. The room was decorated beautifully and in period and was clean. The linens and towels were adequate and good. The mattress firm and comfortable enough. The bathroom while small was adequate but could use a thorough cleaning and updating. We did take the Oglethorpe Trolley Tour on Thanksgiving morning and while the tour guide did a great job on the history, it was cold (low 40's)and it was necessary to have the plastic curtins down for comfort it did make seeing out the side windows difficult. Most of the trolley tours had those windows so on a cold morning try and find one that has glass. The evening meeting hour at the hotel w/ wine and appetizers was nice and allowed guests to chat and compare notes of what they had seen. I'm not a wine drinker and unfortunately while the wine was free the water & soda you had to pay for??? Breakfast was adequate not much more than typical chain hotel offerings but enough to get you through until you found a lovely spot in town to have lunch. We had lunch at Kevin Barry's Irish Pub across from the hotel on the waterfront and had a very good Rubin and Shepards Pie and the view of the river was great and the staff very friendly and accommodating. We had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner buffett at the Pirates House and it was very tasty and the staff very nice, and helpful and we enjoyed dining in such an historic venue even if we didn't get to view any of the resident ghosts. Once again I appreciate everyone working on Thanksgiving for us to have a nice holiday and enjoy Savannah. We would definitely go back and visit in a heartbeat..

Room Tip: Upper floor to avoid creaking boards.
