Our hotel bordered the park which is huge, relaxing and great for people watching and picture taking. The park itself is very historical and several amusing stories have been told about the Spanish moss which is not Spanish at all. In the early days the moss was gathered to stuff mattresses and Henry Ford even used the moss to stuff car seats. Inhabitants of Savannah quickly learned that chiggers inhabited the moss hence " don 't let the bed bugs bite" and chiggers in the car seats actually multiplied. Now everyone admires moss from afar.
