“Our Favorite Home to Tour!”
Reviewed 17 October 2013

This home isn't advertised as much as the others but it was definitely our favorite home we toured. The guide was excellent and the history very interesting.

“Interesting!”

We brought family to Savannah for the first time and this house was a perfect addition to our other tours. Lots of interesting history and architecture. Perfect.

“Beautiful Greek Revival Home”
Reviewed 25 May 2013

My friend and I happened upon this home, which is open to the public for tours. The restoration of the home is beautiful. The chandeliers on the 1st floor are amazing, and I loved the history of this home. I was disappointed I couldn't take a photo. The furniture doesn't seem to fit as much into the home, but the other features make up for it.

“Yet another spectacular historic home!”
Reviewed 4 April 2013

Dominating Orleans Square, this beautiful "old lady" has lovingly been kept up and indeed, were you to let your imagination run a bit, you could imagine yourself a Savannah blue-blood of the 19th century as you wandered the rooms and garden.

“Less than impressive”
Reviewed 24 January 2013

The house itself IS impressive; however, much of the furniture was purchased by the woman who bought the home in1939 & who, to her great credit, restored it to its original state. Our guide seemed more impressed by this woman, Alida Harper Fowlkes, than the house itself. Not to disparage her immense contribution to the salvation of this great home, but 100 years of history played second fiddle to her purchases & reputation. Midway through the tour a guide who had completed a tour with another group attached himself to our group & carried on disruptive conversations with one member of our group. One other item: I'd seen no notices about photograhy so asked if it was permitted, was told by a second guide (perhaps in training) that it was OK, then told NO it was not after taking a few photos (no flash) ...a bit embarassing. All things considered we did not think this worth the $10/person fee...especially when comparing it to a tour of the Owens-Thomas house where the guide was beyond knowledgeable about the house & its entire history, & it's architecture.
