Riding the steam train is definitely the highlight of the visit. Small, but rich in information and exhibits. Awesome to wak in and out of the train cars. Overall fun for children and people who enjoy historical exhibits. $16 for one adult, one child. Kind of pricey for the 45 minutes we spent there, but I understand it's part of the historical society and need the funding to keep the doors open.

Lots of activities for youngsters. Savannah tourism is based on being a historic port city. Kids might find some other tours boring but this one has a great area for the younger population.

The Railroad Museum is part of the Coastal Historical Society's range of museums. It was a salvage of the Central Georgia railroad and is very historically significant. The trains being restored here would likely have rusted to nothing without this intervention. It is a very reasonably priced stop, and if you do a 3-day, 3-stop pass, it becomes even more affordable. The buildings were built pre-Civil War, some with Savannah "Grey" brick, shaped and baked with slave labor on the banks of Savannah River. The Coastal Historical Society is deeply committed to complete historical recreation and restoration. This spot is a nice addition to a historically rich area.,

Our daughter has been hugely into trains lately so we thought this was an appropriate activity. I was a bit taken by the price tag but it was the only thing we did in our brief stopover in Savannah so we participated. It was a nice surprise and we had a great time. One can get into a few trains, operate a hand car and read some interesting facts. There was more to the exhibit than we thought and there was plenty to see and space to run around if you have an active toddler with you. Worth the money since she had a blast!

We purchased tickets to the RR museum only, because we were almost done with our trip. They have discounts with the History Museum and the Fort, and the Children's museum, to help you save a little money. After walking out, I was totally bored. Then, everything changed - Here is my secret. The activities that they hold throughout the day are fabulous. For example, then take the locomotive, turn it around, and drive it around the property. We didn't get to ride on it but we saw it being done as we were entering. Then, we got to ride on a Hand Car which was totally fun... Just like the people who work on the Railroad. Then we got to tour the fancy cars that the rich people got to ride around in. And then we learned about all the locomotives which I knew nothing about. If you don't attend the activities, the museum is just not fun in my opinion. If you do, it is great. So to do those activities you will need to spend 4 hours. You could probably get the schedule in advance. My husband still talks about that hand car - we should have ridden it twice it was so fun!
